First, I am not looking for an appraisal! I have read the forum rules and understand them. I am a new collector, and stumbled across, what I believe, to be an authentic, old, Chinese Sword. Being very new to sword collecting I was just hoping for some basic information on this sword so I may begin to research its history and proper care. Thank you all for your information and patients with a "newbie"! William

Welcome to the forum. Perhaps consider contacting Peter Dekker: mandarinmansion.com/servicesI don’t know what he might charge, but he’s quite knowledgeable and approachable.

Thank you all for your information and patients with a "newbie"! William It looks to me like yet another Chinese fake "samurai sword" from maybe 15 years ago. These things used to be all over eBay, being offered as real nihonto, until people got wise to them, and the better grade of Longquan reproductions (and offered as reproductions, not originals) crowded them out. They used to overdecorate everything, instead of copying the more common Japanese aesthetic of simplicity.. BTW, it will probably be unsafe to use until you remove the existing mekugi (the bamboo pins holding the blade to the hilt) and replace them with properly made ones.
