From what I have gathered through my travels, Citadel Swords have quite a reputation and are of impeccable quality throughout. My own thoughts on them is blade aesthetics need some work before I shell out that level of cash. Their koshirae et cetera are generally fantastic, but every blade I've ever seen has failed to impress me at the appropriate level.
In the end, if you like the look of one, and have the money, go for it. It seems they resell pretty well if you don't like it.

I can think of better for that kind of dough, I mean, you can buy a tamahagane blade from hanwei for what they want for two blades, there are also cheaper and better options out there.

Better I guess is all relative... There are cheaper options out there... but it's hard to say a production sword is "better' than Citadel? Better how, or for what? I love Hanwei , I'm a Hanwei fan, but I'd never buy a Paper Crane, and won't even buy a Tori, which I love the mount on , until they do some geometry changes . Citadel makes their blades in a very traditional manner, and puts a lot of attention into mounting them. The bo-hi are not the way -too- deep machine cut bo-hi on Fred or Paul Chen blades. The geometry is more traditional as well. By comparison shopping, one can find Citadel blades for less than $1000, my Yoshi was less than $1000, and they are at least as good as anything in their price range.... better if you like traditional aspects more. At any rate here's a link to Drawdy Sensei's thoughts on Citadel, and J.C. has some good pics of his luxe in the thread as well. forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=61077&highlight=citadel Just the 2 cents of a former Citadel owner

Thanks for all the feed back. How do you think they compare with the higher end hanwei, like the Tori, in cutting etc. Thanks again for your help.

If you take a look at other sites like zanshin iron works and zhou zheng wu forge and places like that you will find something just as beautiful as the citadel blades in my opinion. Heck if you are going to spend that much money talk to Sensei Brian at Roninswords.com and see what he has to offer and what he recommends.
