Bloodwraith, nobody is saying that hanwei is making tons of bad swords. Is a bad company, or you WILL get a lemon. Far from it. Most swords I have seen from them are quite excellent. What the issue is how they reacted to those bad swords when it did come up.

What evidence do you have of their reaction that was actually warranted and genuine, out of curiousity?

Okay...let see, the replaced swords in the hands of the same people are holding up fine. Humm that sounds like those 8 swords were a bad batch to me.
Barring even that, first hand, we had an XL BREAK when used to cut tatami. The cut was flubbed admitly. But not badly enough for something like that to happen. I mean we have had other hanwei xl kats flubb WAY worse and come out fine. And hanwei sent the same reply of it was abuse. If I had known the local blacksmith back then, I would have taken it to have a look. As it stood, the owner did not want to bother to try and "prove" hanwei wrong and bought another kat. And I assure you, it was NOT a hanwei sword. After that, we had very few people buy hanwei because that left a very bad taste. Having good products is important...but never forget that having good customer service is also important. One bad CS interaction can cost you one lost customer immediately and who know how many after they tell how aweful they got treated. And if that person only bought one sword, they would never know that normally you make great swords. Yes minimizing bad products is good as zecton has mentioned...but eventually, we're humans, something WILL go wrong. How your company deals with those is also very important.

I've got to call this whole darn thing into question. 8 swords out of hundreds are bad, and all eight go to the same folks... Vegas wouldn't take those odds. Add to that the fact that the same folks are now doing the sama edge on edge contact with new swords that AREN't being damaged... that's even harder to swallow. ANY sword is damaged by edge on edge striking.

But the little mice told me THE ANSWER was "42" Just kidding ;D 12% seems high, I guess I sort of expected around 5%, but I can live with it as long as whoever works with ya to fix it if it happens. I'm really leaning towards darksword based on what people say about their service (and their swords just look cool). The fact that us peasants can actually buy REAL swords in first place is a freaking awesome thing that I had no idea about until last month!! How I missed that I don't know... Thanks for the info everybody!

Add to that the fact that the same folks are now doing the sama edge on edge contact with new swords that AREN't being damaged... that's even harder to swallow. ANY sword is damaged by edge on edge striking. Umm...no. Swords are usually HT in batches. Even in SMALL operations. Since these are all ordered at the same time, this could very well be the result of a bad batch of heat treatment. Hey it happens. Or it could be that that their iron supply for a batch got contiminated with some other material. But since things are generally done in batches, getting a whole order like that of bad swords isn't as hard to swallow as you make it out to be. Now if those 8 swords were ordered at different times...yeah, that's different. As for NO damage...who said no damage. The comment that Jason passed on was that they are holding up fine. Small notching (which is advertised) is holding up fine if you need a stage sword to do edge on edge.

Go randomness muhahaha ;D . In all honesty though, I don't find it all that hard to believe. See answer above.
