Hello I am looking for a quality helm in the 11th century style of the Anglo Saxon & Norman style. Looking for one that would be considered historically accurate and would be able to actually take a blow like the real thing. Anyone know of anyone/company who makes it?

Yes a nasal helm in the style of Normans & Anglo Saxons, they pretty much both used the same styles in 1066. So do you have a recommendation for a source to look at? I'd like to keep budget under $500 but will still window shop if its not too much over.

I have the hanwei nasal helmet. It is very robust and I have no doubts it could perform at LEAST as well (I would wager it could even put perform the originals) as the originals. It feels very solid and I like it very much
My only issue with it is I can't find where the straps connect to the helmet. It feels like the liner and straps are glued in place, and I dislike that about it
But even just sitting on top of your head with padding, I wouldn't doubt that to be suffice

Wow Eric...for under $500.00 you could get a custom fit one. You'd have to pad it, but it would be the shape of your head. Personally, what mystifies me about that particular helm design is the nasal. Pretty much any hit is going to shift it into your nose/teeth. So proper strapping is essential to making it not inadvertently shifting and breaking your nose or teeth or both. Truly though, The Hanwei option is good. Here's another option I've actually seen. Not pricey either. www.gdfb.co.uk/If you want a custom, PM me.

I forget what it's called, I always imagined the part that sometimes covered the mouth would provide padding for the nasal part to rest against, giving a "bar of protection" in front of the face. Better to have it smashed in than cut, during an era before people understood germ theory and how to properly clean a wound

Thanks Thorfinn, I took a look at that website and think I found a good candidate of a helm I like, now I gotta research a arming cap to go with it.

Got this one from Kult of Athena. It may be the style you want, but I think is 18 gauge. It has a suspension and fit my huge melon.

Yeah the one I saw on the site sort of looks like that one but I believe is 16 or 14 gauge.
