Some things I've got in the pipeline; most are more mainstream stuff than I usually do: (Click on the thumbnail for the big picture)

I love the array of shapes and styles. Stunning! What are your plans for the mounts on each piece?
Its nice to see some of your work here. I loved the last few you posted ages ago.

Matt, It might be a bit hard to read but the mountings are actually detailed on the blueprint. It's been a very odd and stressfull year so far but I hope to get a bunch of new stuff out before too long.
Selling some of it would be nice, too.

Its a bit small for my eyes; I am nearly blind these days! My browser has stopped letting me see the picture for some reason

Lovely work Dan. It'd be great to keep an eye on how they finish up. Thanks

Looks good Dan, are you taking a leaf outta my book with all those unfinished works:D? I like the second one up from the bottom.

I've discovered the zoom function on the picture!
I'm noticing a number of the blades are from recycled files, so the design tells. What are your real opinions on using recycled steel for blades?
Sounds like you have great ideas for handle fittings. Can't wait to see them finished. Some of the combinations sound simply stunning.

Very cool, just made my first blade not long ago and now I'm hooked. The second one up from the bottom, is this a fighting knife? Also would be interested in your opinion on using recycled steel. Also love the first blade.

Nope, only two are from recycled files.
I generally prefer to use new steel or steel that I made myself, but I've had a spate of bad "apprentices" that left unfinished projects lying about the shop. Not wanting to waste the stuff, I've been finishing up what is salvageable.
Sam, Most of these will be finished before the snow flies. The one you like was supposed to be a camp knife but it was overworked into oblivion. When I hot cut the waste it ended up looking like a tiny scimitar and when I ground it, well it looked like it does.
The blade suggests a crested redbird or cardinal to me, so I'm finishing it out with copper and with red wood (padauk). I'll likely give it a red sheath with a carved cardinal's head when it's complete.

When you say "apprentices", what do you mean?
Were they people you had let out your shop to? Or fellows you were actually teaching?
My apologies for nosiness.

I like the Fairbairn-Sykes style blade. A double-edged fighter has been on my to-do list for quite some time.

Matt, No worries; these were from people I actually tried to teach. I don't let out my shop; too much liability involved.
Slav, I have always been partial to the S-F style myself; this is also one of my favorites. That blade started out as the tang off of a failed attempt at a katana.

They must have been quite impervious to teaching! ;D
I would rather use virgin steel. I need to find myself a supplier that sells what I am after. Of course, I can't use admiral as I live in the UK, which further complicates things as steel suppliers here dont use the AISI classification system. I did some research into UK classifications for steels, though, and a lot of them are suprisingly similar to the AISI designations. Sadly, no one I have contacted wants to sell less than a stupid quantity at a time.

Matt, Check around for machine shop supply houses such as Metal Mania or Sheffield Gauge Plate or Google Search for a supplier of precision ground flat stock or drill rod. You can usually find it easily enoughh and these products are typically sold piece-mill so they expect short orders. A bit more expensive but you don't have to spend a bundle for more steel than you need.

Thanks for the links. Both seem pretty cool. I will see if Sheffield guage plate can supply me with 1095/CS95 in Precision Ground Flat Stock, as I don't fancy playing with tool steels like O1 just yet.
They've even got a price list! Cool!
+1, Dan.
