Ooooh! Damn! That's crazy good, that's hard to believe it's just a windlass haha. I'm both jealous and inspired to try (a much more simple) something similar to that. That is crazy nice Beauitful patter of etching, and shaft work. The butt cap looks good with it too

Very nice! Seems like it should have a cross bar though.

Very nice! Seems like it should have a cross bar though. It seems that mostly when cross bars are seen in period(And in modern times), it's almost always on a recreational hunting spear in which the spear is held inside the four-legged creature and the bar is not allowing it to move forward upon the shaft when it's stuck. I have seen many examples(Many in Germany) where the bars are even just a piece of antler or horn fastened to the shaft to form a bar as such. I don't know if it would provide the same function here against physically powerful humanoid or otherwise semi-humanoid targets that can use the bars as leverage/handles to fight you over the spear or wrench it away, etc. Hadn't considered that. Have you tried cutting with it?

Another fantastic and envious creation. At this rate digital archaeologists will be fighting over the symbols and meaning behind them in a hundred years!

How was the etching done? Laser or acid?

That's the best looking Windlass Hewing spear I've seen.

That's cool. It's very reminiscent of the spear I'm almost finished putting together. I also used a Windlass spearhead and butt cap, and filed spiral grooves into the haft. I've also decorated the steel bits with etching, bluing, and enamel. All I have left to do on my spear is to touch up a few spots which have refused to cooperate with the previous coats of paint, and then slap some clear coat on it. I wish I had more time and energy to devote to such things.

It turned out great. I like the spiral patterns. That would be fun to cut with!

cool. I like how you took an existing production piece and 'evolved it' perhaps being a good word into something much more fine than what it started as.- the LAtin inscriptions are well done. and i really appreciate the 'tactical" thoughts that went into the idea of the spear being better suited for indoor applications?- but still much longer reach than most of your other related weapon- the spiral is an attractive contrast both visually and functionally. great job!- Levin/Nate

Goodness gracious, but that's a proper spear, with a proper socket and butt spike no less. No more of those ground out of sheet metal and with two wooden slabs glued on, pretty please! Looking forward to some of your new designs of actual polearms like Dane axes, polehammers, etc. I can't stand the sight of those sheet metal armouries.
