Man, that yataghan looks wimpy next to that gladius. Is it a newly-made model? Too clean for an antique...

Impressive collection, could you perhaps post a pic of the longsword with the steel hilt and custom grip's blade? Interested in seeing it in full I'm unfamiliar with the model.

Didn't know Windlass ever made a yataghan. Pity they still don't, I might have bought one. Would you be able to get some measurements and send them my way, at your convenience? It looks so small in your photo, but probably because that gladius is WIDE.

I have a beat-up antique I bought for cheap that's got about five inches on it and even that's pretty short, but a size I quite like. Still really nice, especially for Windlass.

Impressive collection, could you perhaps post a pic of the longsword with the steel hilt and custom grip's blade? Interested in seeing it in full I'm unfamiliar with the model. Absolutely. It’s called the War Sword in the 98 MRL catalog. Ah, yes, the "transition" days. (From when Del Tins dominated to when Windlass stopped sourcing from them.) Sometimes it's hard to tell from the catalog alone if the former or latter (MRL also sometimes got the blades from Italy but then mounted them themselves.) I had one of the latter--on clearance--that was at first uber-frustrating, because, when mounting them, Windlass went away from peening to the pommel itself being screwed on. AND(ugh!) without being keyed! So if you cut with it it was constantly coming loose. (Plus over-tightening, and/or transferred stress from impact, could snap those threaded rods on the tang.) BUT in a great think-outside-the-box learning experience, I didn't do what everybody else did. (I.e. just semprini about it and disparage Windlass/MRL). And came across a trick I use occasionally even today. *Just encase the whole hilt, pommel, handle and even part of the guard (that is to the "ricasso" just above) in a single piece of leather.* They become a single mechanical unit, albeit one with actually just a little advantageous "give" on the torsional forces, and hold together perfectly well. Anyway, just in case yours runs into that problem on you, give it a try. And if not, it works extremely well on other "low end" swords that have screw-on pommels and loosening issues, at least if it's something asymmetric like a wheel pommel. (Looking at you Deepeeka, I want one of those Clunys on the cheap.)
