I was tempted by that auction but I already have one to play with. Congrats! Good price too. I'm glad we didn't end up in a bidding war Have you received it yet and got to take it for a spin?
I've seen the troopers as well and agree those are not worth the asking price, especially when factoring in that they are defaced.
Glad you got this one at a good price, I paid more for one without a scabbard - however it was my first antique sword purchase so I didn't really know what I was doing - still don't regret it as these are super fun to twirl around and I've gotten my money's worth.

I simply could not resist the chance to have a fine example of the troopers sword, so when one came up on ebay just now I pulled out all the stops to get it. This sword has been at the top of my list for many many years now. I am very excited! Attachments:

Wow, I'm jealous! And it's not decommissioned. Even better. That's the officer version right?>

My officer's sword has been decommissioned but otherwise is in excellent condition overall, and the blade has never been sharpened. This troopers sword in such a well preserved state was too good to pass up!

so were we in a bidding war for this troopers that was just on ebay? I would say I went over budget on it but tbh I didn't set a budget lol! Had to have it!

Unless I see a Swiss M1867 mounted officer at least.
Congrats on the trooper! You are super lucky to find one that hasn't been decommission. Glad I didn't see it I would have been tempted.

I'm lucky such a nice one came for sale- I missed a good one last year around this same time. I paid handsomely for this one and it definitely wasn't in the budget but ah-well that's how it goes sometimes. Super pleased to have both and looking forward to making a dedicated wall plaque for them.

A better choice would be something more readily available, LOL. I've been coming up dry unfortunately for over a year now. I did see a nice one in a Swiss auction however they wouldn't ship to the US, so the journey continues! I'll just be patient and it will come my way.

Super pleased to have both and looking forward to making a dedicated wall plaque for them. Likely still a good investment. I've seen rusty decommissioned ones going for a pretty high price. You have a prime example, sometimes you gotta grit your teeth and pay up for it, especially when it's not likely to come around again anytime soon.

Maybe it was part of an estate sale acquisition?

I received my troopers sword! Right away here is something I noticed- a very striking difference in length between my officer's and my troopers. The officer has a blade length of approx 81cm, the troopers is about 88cm. There's no reason I can see that would suggest the officer's has been shortened. Both blades are intact and never sharpened as well.

That's awesome, makes it even more unique to go along with being complete and non-decommissioned.
Congrats! I just sent a bunch of money to Latvia to finally acquire the Swiss 1867 Mounted Officer I've been looking for!

That's awesome do you have pics yet? To clarify, it's my decommissioned officer sword that is slightly shorter that is a variation piece. I had not noticed that its measurements were shorter compared to what Pino listed in his original write-up, until I put it side-by-side with the trooper sword I just received.

I just measured my officer and its right at around 33" blade length.
Here's the Swiss 67 Mounted Officer I purchased:
