Side Sword Custom Conundrum

Hi all, I've been interested in SideSwords with complex hilts for awhile and very recently I've talking with someone to make a piece. Now initially I pretty happy with the breakdown, but then I started running the numbers and felt like getting slightly gauged?
In short, the final price we got down too hovered between 2500-3000 USD. This is for a sword and dagger combo, and to be fair, part of that price is because I want a specific adornment and theyve explained that they have to outsource for and that even to them its kinda overpriced but i digress. That being said, the price isn't really the problem, its a allot of money for sure, but with some check balancing I could make it work. What irks me is that I'm actually providing the blade for this project, I'm basically just paying him to mount it. The blade is a hanwei tinker bare, which go for around $150.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, am I crazy for spending $3k to dress up a cheap mass produced blade? when for the price I could try going for a custom smith to forge me a unique one of a kind piece of steel? Again, I want to iterate that I'm not trying to throw shade at this craftsperson, they clearly do nice work and are respected in the community, but like most people on here I'm a frugal person and am just trying to make sure I get the most value for the limited resources I have. I'm welcome to all opinions on the matter, whether you agree or think im being a paronoid cheapskate, I just need some guidance.
Side note, Not to derail from the main point, but part of the reason I'm doing this is because of health conditions that are more less pressuring to 'enjoy things while I can' , which is why I haven't gone to someone like A&A who could very likely make what I want with ease but would take over a year to do so and leave me hanging on when I'll get my product lol
