I have been kind of keeping my eye on the Cold Steel 1830 Napoleonic Sabre for a while now. I have read that people have heard that it is good, but nothing concrete. I was wondering if any of you have owned this or know someone that has. Or if you know a site that has reviews on it. For my next sword I was thinking either this or the CS 1796 Light Cavalry Sabre, but I have heard it is unwieldy, though that doesn't concern me so much. I just want a vicious cutter. But I have to say the napoleon sabre is more attractive.
Sorry for the ramble lol. Thanks in advance for any info.

I don't know of any recent reviews, but you might search around over at SFI and see what pops up. I do remember hearing that they were regarded rather fondly by a few folks over there (it might have been Hotspur who told me that, though I can't be certain. Perhaps he'll chime in). Most of CS's swords have undergone various changes in the past year or so, to one degree or another. Whether that's due to different suppliers or to other factors I haven't a clue, but it's something to consider when perusing reviews from several years ago that you may run across. I don't know if or how much the 1830 has changed in more recent batches, so I'm eager to hear about any newer opinions myself. It is a beautiful piece (in pics, at least).

Just thought of something and I wanted to ask, if anyone could hazard a guess, do you think this Napoleon Sabre or the 1796 Sabre would be a better slicer/chopper/what have you?
The Napoleon one is heavier by 3.5 oz according to cold steel, but I don't know if this would make a significant difference either way, seeing as the blade shape of both is quite different. My guess is on the 1796, sound about right?
And man, I wish I could take the blade of the 1796 and stick it with the handle of the Napoleon sabre. If only...

Hello all, I have Cold Steel's "Fighting with the Sabre and Cutlass" DVD and it is that French cavalry sabre you mentioned that they use throughout the DVD. It is a beautiful sabre and grows on you sort of. The more I watch the DVD the more I want one of those swords. Freebooter
