Hello all! Been lurking around these forums for the past few weeks and decided to break the silence! First off, I’m surprised and saddened by the lack of Chinese swords produced in well, China as opposed to all the katana hah. Anyways, I was looking around and can’t seem to find anywhere to get sword fittings for Chinese Dao or Jian? What’s up with that? Anyone know where we can get some to our liking? Seems to be a few decent blades out there but the fittings are left to be desired more often than not. I figured I could just order up a nice blade and mount it myself since I’m a wood working artisan by trade. I saw a thread of someone who suited up his Miao Dao and it was very handsome! I was looking for Han jian fittings. LK chen’s work is nice but i find the general finished look to be lacking a bit even from a historical view point Lots of cute looking ones on Ebay but I’m a little skeptical of what I’d get in the end… Sinosword has the Otcahedral which seems nice but can’t find any reviews on it. Does anyone have any up to date recommendations for mid range custom work? And thise damn fittings. If there’s hundreds of swords with similar ones I can’t believe we can’t get our hands on some.. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to active membership.
A little while back, I was looking for some decent fittings for my liuyedao. I wasn’t able to find a single vendor that would sell fittings. Admittedly, my efforts were amateurish at best.
There were a couple of folks doing custom copper fittings that looked very nice, but the price was way out of my reach.
If you find a source, please share it with the forum.

I may be influenced by my new acquisition from them but I really like the Art of Fire and Iron ( fire-and-iron.weebly.com/) for Chinese, japanese and some european weapons. Not sure if they sell only fittings but communication (they're easily reachable by Messenger or WhatsApp) was swift and clear. (The Yari I ordered came exactly as advertised : no saya rattle, no random scratch or otherwise little imperfections.) Another one I heard being praised was "Amphy Her" of Millionblades but she's more likely to be reachable on the SBG Facebook group rather than forum if I recall clearly. However, I don't have any personal experience with her so it might just be hearsay from my part.

Wow, Fire and Iron seems to be a super expensive version of LKchen swords 2000 euros? Christ lol. I find it hard to believe that we couldn't just order the fittings from the places that make them for all these vendors :/ Meanwhile, katana fittings are falling from the sky...

It really depends what type of sword. (they seem to have grades...some mid-priced, some really high-end) I find it more interesting to look at their Facebook page, there are in stock pieces immediately available (and on sale too). Naginatas (378€ to 513€ depending on length) Ming Era Dao (475€, would have taken it if I didn't have so much one-edged swords ) Yari (mine was 378€, standard length rather than extended)
