...For procrastinating on customizations more and more the closer they are to being done. (Achilles and the Tortoise eat your hearts out.) But shy of finishing the suspension belt and getting just the right ivory/pearl/white rayskin for the handle, I'm *almost* done with this longtime project of turning Cold Steel nodachi into a syncretic quasi-kriegsmesser-thingie. A lot of historically-very-possible (technologically) but extremely historically-unlikely-together build components used. As usual for me. imgur.com/gallery/jPESZ4K

She's still a slightly overbuilt behemoth for her length, alas, at the following stats, which by my pet calcs is still about 5%-10% too heavy for maximum allowances. But pretty, and ok for an "I'm gonna imagine I'm in full armor and strong enough to swing a battlefield beast." Weight 5 lb on the nose (after 2-3 oz more of estimated rayskin) OAL 50" Blade 38" POB 4.5"

Looks great! How does it feel in the hand? A bit too heavy. But definitely powerful. And I do still prefer it to the full length shaft on the stock Nodachi; being able to clear the body is worth it. I'd liken it to a zweihander/montante without the full reach one would prefer, basically. Super hard hitting, but you'd best be armored up.

Hell, this looks amazing. Very nice idea, I'm excited to see it finished
Regarding the rayskin, namikawa-ltd is a japanese vendor for sword related materials and stuff, their skins are apparently really good for the prices, but I haven't seen them in person yet. Just from what I've heard so far, but cottontail customs is experienced enough, so I trust him. Regarding the ivory, you also might look for elforyn, its a synthetic / plastic imitation of ivory. But fairly expensive

But fairly expensive Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I guess on further thought I realize I posted because the last two big things, the rayskin for the handle and probably a Tods Stuff bronze chape for the scabbard I've been eyeing, are each going to cost me more than I want to immediately shell out for. But grabbing a piece of synthetic imitation rayskin is a great idea as a mockup in the meantime. I probably will, then attach with an easily removable adhesive, just to see if I like the look. Which has been my bane on many pieces--especially this one--and why it often takes me forever to finish customizing things. I have an idea in my head--then keep changing it up with new ideas as I go. :) (Originally the crocodile print leather that's on the scabbard was what I'd acquired for the handle, for instance, and that faceted labrodorite inset just below the scabbard throat was supposed to be for the pommel. I'm an inveterate tinkerer. You should see the range of masterpieces--and travesties--in the kitchen when I'm supposed to be trying a recipe. (rofl) )
