Good evening, What do you think about this French saber an xi? It's not mine, I'm considering buying it.
Regards

I like it, final decision depends on the price but the sword looks good. Ask to see if there is a brazing line on the scabbard. Normally you can see copper ‘solder’ on the scabbard seams. This is a good indication that the scabbard is period.

Thanks for your opinion, and are the controllers' punches correct?

Nice! Interesting date. The fact that Lobstein signed off on the blade may indicate there were repair(s) done somewhere. I cannot see anything though. The sabre seems to be intact. Could be that the old (busted) Empire blade was taken out and a new Restoration blade was mounted on the old hilt. It looks like someone at some point lacquered the grip leather again. Underneath I think I can see some rope coming through. Not really a problem in my book. What is the blade length? And the length of the scabbard? Generally the scabbard (without the drag) is 1 to 1.5 cm longer than the blade.
Cheers.

Yikes that's a high price, I paid approx $2k USD for mine and I see them sell around that value often.

The Solingen made AN XI sabres go for about half of that when in good condition. French do not want them so there you go. You pay extra for the hype. Quite a lot too. Ouch.
Cheers.

I've never understood the fact that the Solingen officer AN XI's are much cheaper than the Klingenthal troopers. I suspect in many cases the officer's are nicer.

My two ANXI. € 1,000 each. This complete (branches) mid condition is fully French. Klingethal + Versailles The second without two branches, apparently some non-French troops used them) better condition: Weyersberg Solingen + Atelier Precision.

Wow. I think I'll stick with my Brit and German sabers (pun intended).

I thought I posted this, but I must have just thought it:
I really like those display racks. Very nice. (The swords are nice, too.) I may have to copy.

Very nice!
Thanks for the info. I’m not sure why it didn’t occur to me, but what a great idea. It made for very easy internet searching.
I must say, the old ones seem to be rather spendy, so double kudos to your display! I’ll probably have to resort to replicas myself, and leave the antiques to you men of means.
Cheers!

Hi A lot of furniture, including from France, is coming to Poland (I live here). At the flea markets, you can also find hangers, stands, picture frames. Small - (photo) you can buy for several dozen euros, also not only the very rich can afford it. Sometimes the background material needs to be replaced. Most often these are hangers from the 19th century. It is also easy to remake an old door from a cabinet, e.g. a kitchen cabinet. Only old, natural and pretty. And if you do not have access to old furniture, take 2 boards and make a stand. Sabers must not touch the wood directly !!!. Especially those with a lot of tannins - oak. Insulation needed.
