I've had good experiences with UC, at least with knives. The UC orc sword is made from carbon steel, and is full tang, with a reasonable price tag. United Cutlery also says that they temper all their LOTR swords, even the stainless ones. So why wouldn't they temper the orc sword, is it safe to assume that they would? And being a thick (3/16"or 4mm), short sword is it really needed? And lastly, hath anyone any handling with it or weight, COP, COB? Thanks.

Tempering is pretty much always needed in one form or another. Period. Without tempering, the steel is stressed from the hardening which makes is very brittle. United Cutlery doesn't make functional swords. They make wallhangers. An Uruk Hai sword is so semprini simple that you could probably commision a blade like that for around $150-200 from any of the several bladesmiths who post on this forum. Then it'll be functional and have a little personal flare to it, instead of being a mass-produced piece of junk. PS: your "good experience" with UC's knives just means you haven't had a good knife. Hopefully we can change that.

Agrees with HR's PS What kind of knives do you collect?

You guys obviously do not remember the good things said about UC's full tang katanas. Since this is actually high carbon steel, and full-tang, I think it might be worth getting.

I've never seen ANYTHING good about UC said by anyone with common sense.
I DO believe I've seen one of their "full tang" models disassembled. What looked like tang in the handle was actually a strip of Aluminum, with only a stubby POS rat-tail in the middle.
United Cutlery is a wallhanger company. End of discussion. You may as well try defending BudK. Same manure, different pile.

Thanks for the info. As for the knives, I've had thier 15" survival knife for almost five years now. It's cut through small tree limbs, wood, other knives, concrete, and small rocks. It's definately one of my sharpest knives (I've shaved with it), all that and its only problem is that the handguard doesn't quite fit on there right.
As for the sword, I think I'll give it a shot and report back. It's cheap after all, and since I'm pre-18, and use mostly my parents money, I'd feel bad spending even a little too much. Who knows? Maybe it won't be too bad. After all, my sub-$50 spartan sword is the only non-machete sword I've owned without breaking it utterly in less than three weeks.

What the hell do you worship KOA for? Yeah, they have good prices, but they aren't friggin magical.
Hell, they sell sharpened stainless wallhangers, and even call Depeeka swords "Battle Ready". Depeeka swords are soft, and known to take a set even easier than Gen2 swords.
I think you should remember a point I made in another thread: NEVER rely on a store to know better. They are NOT the company that made the product, and they are NOT necessarily knowledgeable on the subject(see ANY thread on mall cutlery shops). You don't have to know it to sell it.
If you COULD rely on the seller, there probably wouldn't be forums like this. Hopefully, most people are here to gain or share knowledge to keep potential buyers INFORMED.
Don't call KOA's product desciptions infallible. Not to mention you're not exactly one of the member's I'd turn to for advice.

HR, you make a good point, but I must say that last part was a little harsh. And yes, UC is known exclusively for wall hangers, but is it not possible that they made one good sword? I guess we'll find out if/when I do a review.

Yeah, IMO, U.C. isn't all that good. having said that, its your money and your decision. If you are happy with it thats all that matters. I guess it all comes down to whether you really want a functional blade, as it seems you do. If thats the case I think you may want to consider other manufacturers. Again, only my opion.

Extremely well put HR, most sword selling websites are out to do just that, SELL SWORDS, no matter what they are really, and KoA is certainly no exception. The breath the same hype the sword companies piss, and even play it up worse some of the time./

It's so nice to see that this is still a friendly, helpful and tolerant forum.

HR - tone it down please. I understand that you feel passionate about the subject being discussed, but some of the posts in this thread are a violation of the SBG 'keep it friendly rule' and I have talked to you about this before...
Take some deep breaths before you post like that next time. Okay?
Thanks,

Apologies. I'm bothered when someone is persistant about feeding others potentially dangerous misinformation, such as trusting the word of a vendor.

HR: I don't think it is so much a problem of what you said as much as the way you said it, you make very good points you are just very blunt and rough as guts mate and whilst I find it refreshing it isn't interpreted well. I miss your old signature as well

I think that there are most definitely some shady vendors out there just out to make a quick buck.BUT having said that ,I must admit iv had nothing but good honest service from Ryan At Kultofathena.I purchase almost every month from him and to date have had nothing but exceptional service (and prices) from him.Im also a very particular buyer so I ask a whole bunch of questions before buying, sometimes I think he must be sick of receiving my e mails. To date he has answered all my questions truthfully & on the occasions when he has been unsure of something (ie:genuine hamon or not etc etc)he has said so.Plain and simple ,no trying to force a sales pitch on me etc etc.As for the UC Scimitar,I own one as I am a lord of the rings fan and these are my only wall hangers I own.Let me say it is well made, and is a good representation of the prop ,but that said I would never attempt any cutting with it,simply put yes it is made from carbon steel ,but that does not mean its been well tempered .My honest opinion ,as with all the lord of the rings UC stuff ,they look good and serve a function as collectables but they are not function "battle ready" pieces.
