Hello, I'm a newbie to the art of buying swords, not necessarily using them, I larp, I practice with training swords and stuff, but I haven't really yet gotten my hands on a real sword, hence, well... Anyways, yes, I do want a nagamaki, not a katana, and yes, I know they have wacky proportions that a lot of people don't get their heads around, but I found something in my home that has exactly the proportions, and damn near the curve of a nagamaki, and I somehow instinctively know how to use it. Something something soulmate but sword lmao. Anyways, I found one here samuraiswords.store/buy/long-size-nagamaki-1060-carbon-steel/ that fits what I want, somehow it's hard to find a sword with proportions for someone my size when the sword type has to be one of the least used types there are.. strange right? Anyways, I was wondering if that's a good grab or not. To my unconditioned eyes, it seems good, full tang and all that, and the reviews for the seller seem good, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks a bunch! Welcome to the forum. You are about to pay $569 for a $200 or less sword, from a seller who thinks that a tsuba is a parrying guard.. Search eBay for "nagamaki" under "Collectibles". You'll find a lot of these.

seems like a red flag in a listing when the seller will only state that the parts are made of metal

Yeah, its a cool piece, If you can find another, I feel its A worthy Scratch- for the NAgamaki- Itch;)-- as I'm sure you've found out that unfortunately there are precious few offerings in the Production Realm for these unique(...and sorely underrepresented forms ) technically the white Wrapped one in question is Kinda- A Nagamaki- the proportions are Usually more a 1:1 ratio ..or Blade 10% longer than haft- its not quite what most Classic/Traditional NAgamki are( although in surviving originals, Which are Uncommon to begin with)- there is some degree in Variation of Proportions-- Not to mention actual Blade forms and Hilt Forms( which can have even more unique variances including some with almost Western Parrying bars attache near or to the Tsuba:)-- part of why i love them too and wish there were more options, as there should be-- and more variety In East and West Historic Weapons From Production makers In the 'Broadest' way for that matter- as far as rarer weapon forms go Best Jon
