Hello,
Have there been cases where the m1854 sabre of dragoons might not have a mark (manufacturer's name) on the blade and no punch on the blade or on the handle?
Visually it looks good, holds all dimensions.
I'm talking about a soldier's, not an officer's french sabre.
Regards Toros

Hi Toros,
The troopers' swords are much more likely to have inspection stamps than the officer swords since they were procured by the state and needed to be quality tested for acceptance. While officer swords were private purchases so testing standards were more flexible and blades would only have been marked by the maker or retailer (if at all).
I would proceed with caution.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your answer.
This just seems suspicious to me as well.
I would definitely say that this is the original, only the lack of the marking of the blade manufacturer and the markings from the inspection is suspect.
regards Toros

It is possible that it was manufactured in another country. French swords were widely copied, with Belgium ( swordsdb.com/SwordsDB_Cavalry_Sabers.php) being a likely candidate. Do you have any photos to share?

And two more photos + information that the broadsword was made by a small private label (hence the lack of markings), this information is beyond the owner: Attachments:

Possibly never issued or the markings were erased...in any case the scabbard can be the best value.
