Scabbard Rattle Solved

I finally eliminated a tip rattle, I think, thanks to Cottontail Customs’ idea. It’s too soon to tell how successful it will be. The last time I did this was with a sword stick using compressible foam. It worked for about two years before the foam worked its way to the bottom of the saya and begin pushing my sword out. Removing the foam was a trial of patience.
Today’s adventure was with a Windlass Regimental Kukri, aka Mk3. I had previously shimmed making the kukri more secure and rattle free at the throat but the tip continued to rattle. I used horse hair, a strange substance to work with for me although I have things made of it. It seemed to have a mind of its own and showed no signs of cohesion. I tied white thread in the middle of the bundle to give some chance of removing hair if failure. I had doubled the bundle over and had to apply a second tie near the apex of the double hair as the bamboo stick that I was using to push the bundle into the scabbard passed through without gripping. After which it went in easily. I don’t know how far down it went but not all the way judging from the amount of thread left over which I taped to the rear of scabbard in case of a future need. My hands were too busy to take photos of the steps involved. Eventually when satisfied I’ll remove the thread. There is also a photo I threw in showing the rear of the scabbard after removing the pouches for the two small knives. I re-sewed the leather up to the point where the flair began for the knives and then glued the excess leather to the scabbard rather than to continue sewing and trimming. The scabbard will now hold the kukri inverted, rattle free, slimmer, and is more to my liking. Just hope my ‘hair job’ is more successful than the foam turned out.
