So there I was faced with a pile of hamburger every bit not quite as big as I am that needed to be re ground. I just finished cutting up a half a cow. The hamburger was stratified and I needed to slice the pile to "homogenize" it in the regrind. None of my knives was quite up to the task, So It hit me...A sword...Yes that's the ticket, it is after all a long knife. On my first slice I rolled the sword to separate the slice and my thumbs came to rest on top of the sword...Big mistake... Just downward pressure, no slicing, was enough to cut them. Not bad, but enough to bleed like a stuck hog. After many special incantations and several band aids, the battle was over. The hamburger was dispatched. I won the battle with only minor scathing!
So now I am thinking a Yataghan might be a more suitable tool for large cuts. The APOC looks promising. Any Ideas??? !

I am glad to see a few comments...Ya'll had me worried. I figured this post would be a contender for the SBG Dumas award. Thumbs are healing nicely. Been a rough week having both my booger hooks out of commission. But hey, adversity leads to innovation. At least I know my Apoc will cut flesh.
Terra... I bought several sets of cut resistant gloves after my friends wife had a meat slicer incident making bacon (no not a pun). I will be damned if I can remember where I stashed them.
Treeslicer... Not only gauntlets but a helmet, an apron and a pair of those metal shoe cover thingies!!!

I think a pair of cloth/leather work gloves might work for you. They are inexpensive and readily available. I learned to use them the hard way. I’ve not injured myself backyard cutting targets but have several times while working with a machete. I’ve hit the offhand once while cutting and the glove would have prevented the result. Normally what happens is I’ll bump the blade with the offhand resulting in anything from a band aid to stiches. These gloves have saved me several times. I could feel the pressure of the contact, but nothing more. FWIW when cutting and I know my offhand will be in close proximity I’ll don my mail glove. But so far have proven not to be needed.
