I'm not sure how "sincere" the dog actually is.

While looking for the first posting of the muse, I came across a 2006 thread starter with the joke and found some more reading.
The End of the Raven -- by Edgar Allen Poe's Cat
On a night quite unenchanting, When the rain was downward slanting, I awakened to the ranting of the man I catch mice for.
Tipsy and a bit unshaven, In a tone I found quite craven, Poe was talking to a Raven perched above the chamber door.
"Raven's very tasty," thought I, as I tiptoed o'er the floor, "There is nothing I like more."
Soft upon the rug I treaded, Calm and careful as I headed Towards his roost atop that dreaded Bust of Pallas I deplore.
While the bard and birdie chattered, I made sure that nothing clattered, Creaked, or snapped, or fell, or shattered, As I crossed the corridor;
For his house is crammed with trinkets, Curios and weird decor Bric-a-brac and junk galore.
Still the Raven never fluttered, Standing stock-still as he uttered, In a voice that shrieked and sputtered, His two cents' worth --"Nevermore."
While this dirge the birdbrain kept up, Huh, so silently I crept up, Then I crouched and quickly leapt up, pouncing on the feathered bore.
Soon he was a heap of plumage, And a little blood and gore - Only this and not much more.
"Oooo!" my pickled poet cried out, "Pussycat, it's time I dried out! Never sat I in my hideout Talking to a bird before;
How I've wallowed in self-pity, While my gallant, valiant kitty Put an end to that damned ditty" Then I heard him start to snore.
Back atop the door I clambered, Eyed that statue I abhor, Jumped - and smashed it on the floor.

As a former guardian of a few cats I find all this terribly appalling and incredibly funny. Thanks all.

Oh absolutely. I always considered myself a dog person but have had more cats than dogs. Funny how life decides for you sometimes. And that’s one of the reasons I use the term guardian instead of owner. We only take care of our pets, not own them.

I dont get caught up in definitions, my dog is a member of my family. I could not even imagine life without her or her predecessor who I still miss every day.

Love is love. Humor is often subjective. I don't mind pets, as long as they are cared for by the owners. My town is filled with notices of absent or missing animals. Today was two runaway clydesdales in traffic, trotting in traffic, obeying the signals. A neighboring tenant has a birdfeeder in her window. It's only a matter of time before management notices. Lots of cats and dogs in the building and most of the dogs personable and obedient. A resident cat where I previously lived was an outdoor hunter. Her larger brother didn't learn the traffic timing well enough. A cool cat that had grown up with a labrador and they would walk together with their "mom". After the lab moved on, my niece just regarded Sadie the cat as another tenant (giving her room and board). The first week I was there, Sadie was meowing loudly at the front door. She had a huge chipmunk and wanted in. I commended her on her trophy and told her she couldn't bring it in. She started at the head and left just the guts. Not fond of eating the snakes she was killing but she did have a penchant for live frog legs. She would hop along behind them before the capture. Loved tummy rubs from my cane once she realized it was not a weapon to her. On patrol on her creek and our driveway. Died of something internal. Very possibly from Decon laden mice. She would do the rounds of traps in the house.

Love is love. Humor is often subjective. ^^^^ Truth! I don't mind pets, as long as they are cared for by the owners. My town is filled with notices of absent or missing animals. Today was two runaway clydesdales in traffic, trotting in traffic, obeying the signals. If you let your animal run loose off your property, outside of your control, it is not a pet in my opinion. Were the Clydesdales attached to a buggy/cart or just loose? A neighboring tenant has a birdfeeder in her window. It's only a matter of time before management notices. While "outdoor cats" have an impact on vermin, they have a needless and devastating effect on urban song bird populations...."Cats that live in the wild or indoor pets allowed to roam outdoors kill from 1.4 billion to as many as 3.7 billion birds in the continental U.S. each year" www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/29/cats-wild-birds-mammals-study/1873871/My dog is under my control at all times...primarily for her safety and well being as well as in respect of the rights of others.

My dog is under my control at all times...primarily for her safety and well being as well as in respect of the rights of others. Yesterday was there were two runaway clydesdales in traffic, trotting in traffic, obeying the signals. Reading is fundamental. Comprehension can be a subjective trait, as is compassion. Different strokes and all that. My question was reasonable and the possibility of a pair of runaway horses hitched to a carriage very plausible given that Clydesdales are draft horses usually hitched to carriages/carts/wagons etc when out in pairs. The fact that you claimed they were obeying traffic signals implied street familiarity consistent with carriage horses. Not sure why you couldn't just report back that they were loose and not hitched to anything... Cheers!

This was to be humour about cats. What does a heated discussion about run away horses have to do with that?
