I purchased this bayonet today from an antique store. I only have a small hallmark mark to work with. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Someone else here can probably do better than me, and I will likely be way off, but that almost looks like a British 1903 (or was it 1905?) bayonet that's been cut down and ground, likely to be used as a knife inside the trenches

See 84/98 types on this chart www.old-smithy.info/country%20sheets/germany.htmThe 1884/1898 model Mauser bayonet types were used worldwide. It can be tough to know what country this one was for. I don't know what the mark represents but I am sure the real bayonet aficionados would know. Post this up in the Military subforum. Cheers GC

I am by no means an expert on bayonets but do have some patience with clues. Cheers GC

One thing I noticed is my other bayonets had a flat head like screw. This bayonet has curved pieces holding the wood handle. Also the hallmark is stamped not engraved. That's the only clues I saw. It make me think it older just don't know from when and where?

I agree with edelweiss. It looks like a 98 Mauser bayonet. I do not know the country of manufacture.

It is a nice looking piece of steel. I would love to get my hands on bayonets from World War One and World War Two. I will have to wait until my paper time ends though
*addendum* I should have specified US and UK bayonets when writing this post.
