But it's with boffers...
Still pretty interesting , the lack of cross gaurd and shorter length suits the JMA style more though. Sang Kim has such nice power generation and cut mechanics I won't say Axel has bad mechanics but it's obvious who had cleaner strikes here.
Here is a neat breakdown of Axel's fighting style , the guy is probably one of the most successful competitive longsword practitioners having won something like 50 international competitions against some of the best in HEMA.
I couldn't find too many videos on Sang Kim competing but he is youngest person to attain the rank of Rokkudan (6th degree black belt) in Toyama Ryu Battodo and he is the president of the US Battodo Federation.

Very nice video. I always like seeing match ups of different styles, especially when it's not done in a manner that sets out to "prove" one is better than the other. It's clear they are there to learn from each other and have fun. Much respect to the both of them.

I had a bit of a sparring match last year with forum member Markus 313 in Germany. I went into the sparring purposely knowing nothing about his style so I could get the experience of fighting against the unknown. It was a great time and here is the link to the thread: sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/60067/video-hema-kenjutsu-rufusscorpius-marcus313I was there again last month, but this time we spent our time learning techniques and not too much sparring.

Interesting match up , I really like George Silvers system it's similar to modern boxing with quick explosive strikes and quick retreats with the use of safe angles, traversing footwork and static guards. I have jumped back and forth a bit but KDF seems to work for me better.

Found a video of Sang Kim fighting at an open exhibition. I know Sang Kim as we both trained under the same line of Toyama Ryu and that may be an exhibition at a Tai Kai but most likely it's a Toyama Ryu seminar and that is Hataya Sensei officiating. Kim Sensei is a very accomplished swordsman who had a rather meteoric rise in the JSA community...a result of natural /intuitive ability and the the same intense focus that helped him become a successful physician. He is one of the very nicest guys in the JSA community and has stayed above most of the usual BS politics that fragmented and diminished the JSA community over the last 10 years. Politics that originated in Japan IMHO.
