Yesterday a sword walked in. The dealer claims it is US 18th Century "Dog Head" Pommel Saber. X-ray spectrometer analysis reveals pure iron 3-fuller blade. The hilt reveals Brass Alloy. The entire design is close to an example Skinners sold in 2018; See www.skinnerinc.com/auctions/3097M/lots/8?fbclid=IwAR0Pmd797Y80mrH0GjOVrzyfNyCIS52AnVlLfXZvy9y2xQ5VKDvBuO6nLyQ, and of course also like ones pictured in Neumann & Flayderman's works. I'm looking for opinions as to authenticity. I have my thoughts but will reserve them for now. One last thing... There is a curious circular impressed mark on the hilt. 33 1/2" Over all Length, 27 5/8" Blade Length, 6" from pommel tang end, to guard edge I appreciate your time and wisdom... Mike Attachments:

Welcome aboard.
Without opening Neumann and without seeing better blade and hilt pictures; my thoughts would be a cut down blade and composite hilt.

Then with that, no dimensions listed? Eff guessing, just post the stats.
I tire of the game pretty quick and I am not inclined to open Neumann until you list which book and an item number (Swords&Blades is almost at arms reach though). Better yet, how about a picture of the page to save me a trip? I know Skinners, you could probably dig it up on archive.org.
I'll add only that it looks like a forced patina and as mentioned, a composite effort.
I'll reserve the remainder of my time. But leave it with one more observation and an opinion. Neumann was often only in the ballpark. Bear, not dog.
