Just received a new sword. When I removed the katana this is what I found. I noticed a rub mark like possibly the kissaki rubbed across the mouth of the koiguchi and caught the inner lining as they placed the sword inside or flat dropped it.....just a guess on my part. Any thoughts on whether this will hold up or continue to peel away? Bob

it will probably be just fine. if the way it looks bothers you, cut pieces of wood that will fit in the spaces, glue them and then file to bring them flush, if needed. if using a filler or putty, make sure it doesn't contain anything with gritty texture and don't use sandpaper because even a few stray grains in the saya can scratch your blade.

Right. I was even thinking just a sheen oh lacquer on top of the shim applied with tacky glue.

that might react badly with the habaki surface, I'd probably avoid things with chemicals if possible.

Right that makes sense. Thanks for the input Josh. I appreciate it.
