I'm obsessed with the idea of creating my own, custom menuki. Has anyone else here ever done this? I'm an artist, to a lesser degree a sculptor, by trade and am confident in my abilities in that regard. However, I know nothing about metals and the technical process. My first thought is to sculpt the menuki of something from which can be poured a cast of molten metal. Are there metals that can be melted and poured at home withou billions of dollars in professional equipment? Pewter, perhaps? Thanks.

Interesting. Thanks.
Looks like it might make more sense for me to sculpt the originals and get someone who already does this kind of metal work to produce the pieces for me.
