Just learned that Fred Lohman has passed away. He was an invaluable resource for this community for many years, and it is a big loss to us all. From what I know, his son has been trying to go through the backlog and also get things back on track.

Well, shoot. There goes another one.
I know/had heard he'd stepped back from his business a few years back, but hadn't heard if it was known whether he was ill or just aging. Either way, a significant loss among the sword world.

Rest in peace. I remember him. He helped me with some katana handle work on a Bugei sword a long time ago, 2002 or so. Nice fellow.

Sorry for your loss. Although I had been on this forum more than ten years ago, I still never got a chance to meet him on here.

Where was this info of his passing posted? He was a good resource for decades when it came to parts and services, particularly for the novice. It looks like, although he may be gone, the business dedicated so much of his life to will remain for the time being. I just visited his site and it looks unchanged...time will tell if it continues to be a reputable resource for the JSA community.
