So, after years of wanting one and a year and a quarter since my last weapon (My custom Early Viking Age Norwegian Sword), I have ordered a custom Norwegian Spearhead, based on this one from the British Museum. When I get it I'll definitely put it through the paces and show some video. It's going to be made of 80CRV2 steel. I'll update as it comes along.

Who is making it for you? A smaller maker, I'll tell more when I get the product and can review it.

What made you decide to go with custom? I know windlass has a similar viking spear, but I suppose you are probably going for period accuracy right? That's a tough one to accomplish. But it's kinda fun to whittle down the gear piece by piece till you have something more and more accurate to the period, especially as you are building and someone is able to offer additional knowledge on how to improve it

I had a spear that sits in the Swedish National Museum recreated by Peter Szabo years ago when he was getting more established. It is cool having a one of a kind. The one in my avatar.

Plus, without trying to get into the pitfalls of “better steel”, this one is made from a higher end tool steel l. I forget exactly what at the moment though. Had a long evening last night, acting in a student film.

Plus it's nice having hand made stuff.
