Very cool Sam. Why not assemble the old girls and set up a collections page in the Collection sub forum? We'd love to see it. I was thinking of 4mm, so I don't go crazy trying to work it. And it would look more delicate, though the leaves would be a size to suit.
Notouchy - you would have the sword held by a nut probably, do the hilt could easily be removed for maintenence.

It would be hard to get sizeable leaves out of small rod, maybe when you get more practice in at welding do a bunch of leaves from 1/2 inch round stock then weld them onto your vines, a smooth welded joint looks alot like the little transition point on a plant where a leaf grows from the parent stem.

I wouldn't go with hollow ground, I would just put a thin fuller in the back part of the blade above the sharpened lower part, much like katana or a falchion, but concave blade.

It is a falx, a chopper/lopper, flat or conves ground, no fuller.
