The wood is American ash. I received it as stark white and an awkward shape. Shaved down, it is wider fore to aft with a flare side to side at the butt to aid retention and the stain was a combination of Kiwi brown shoe polish and Pecards brown and black antique dressings (both product lines waxes). It came out good. I never did get the Windlass shoe that got misplaced. I have thought to maybe squash a piece of thin pipe oval for a ring but(t); at this point it is part of the horde in storage.
Your head dimensions look good.
