PSA on Huawei Swords - I just was mistreated by them
After around 5 months I was told I haven’t received my sword due to them not having a kojiri cap. Another month goes by… I ask them to use a different kojiri, or leave it off, and please send the sword. No response.
Later I ask if I could perhaps then switch my order to something they have in stock that they can send out now, that I would gladly add money to get a different sword now if they had any in stock. That I would even be willing to take a cheaper sword that was ready to go now as another option, and that they could refund the difference. Was just seeking to find a way to get a sword now. 6 months is too long to me- looking at all options to resolve.
The next morning (today), I receive a refund for my $379.00 with no email explaining why, no apology, just 6 months wasted because I wanted to see what my other options were.
This is such crappy treatment. I wanted to let others know that they don’t work with you or care about you as a customer.

This is no surprise. With Huawei, you put in your order, and the sword will come whenever it does. And it'll be better than anything else you can get for the same price.
If you ask about it multiple times, they'll just refund you with no warning.

Just make sure you never go to order an Albion sword, a Sulowski, a Kopiuch or an Incarius Craft... ;-) Six months is NOTHING. I see the unnerving factor of lacking communication, though. But it seems to me in their eyes we are just rude impatient Gweilo...

I have a couple of Huawei I bought in 2020 which were shipped out quick, No issues. I know their swords are extremely good quality. I’m just feeling pain over what just happened. Thanks for the responses.
I just am thinking that the market has changed. They are busy, in high demand, and perhaps are starting to really not care about things like happy customers or repeat business. Hard to guess since I wasn’t given any response. I just wanted people to know they might be looking at a disappointing wait compared to the Huawei of the past.

Other option is to buy a good base blade from another maker and have it remounted. There's a guy selling an unused upper priced Huawei on FB group Kompletely Katana now if anyone is interested. Nice sword with mount upgrades, $800. I think he is on this forum too.

Yes the popularity and wait time has increased, but to have them arbitrarily cancel orders without any contact or offer of extending the wait time us very, very poor business practice. Albion wouldnt do it? Just because Huawei make decent blades does not allow or excuse poor customer service. So many are ready to defend them yet this is honestly a pretty crappy way to treat customers.

Just to look at it from the vendor's perspective: 1) they are actually trying their best to deliver a good quality product as quickly as humanly possible (I only say this bc Huawei seems to have that reputation), and 2) they are dealing with a substantial backlog due to various supply line disruptions and work stoppages due to Covid19, and 3) a customer asking for a different sword while their order is still in progress is potentially wasted time/money/effort for the vendor as well (or at least sunk cost that can't be recovered until the sword has beem finished and sold to someone else, esp now that a refund has been issued).
Yes, I agree that an apology would go a long way, but I'd be willing to give the benefit of the doubt that the language barrier might be a contributing factor. Answering emails from current and prospective customers is a very time-consuming process even without it. Doing that while simultaneously communicating and coordinating details with the forge/shop, suppliers, shipping, etc., I would imagine it's quite the administrative burden.
Just offering another possible perspective. Take it as you will.

I could take my chances with other vendors 4 times before I even see a Huawei arrive. 6 months now seems like you're lucky if you even get that. I've seen some say a year to almost 2 years now. They are good but not that good. And the lack of responses is maddening. Just say yes or no, lol. Again, still good swords. If you can get one quick do it.

Sympathies. Yes, Huawei are good swords, probably the best of the production swords in their price/features category. Yes, the current wait is going to be long....as I understand, from a friend who ordered one a couple or so months ago, currently nothing is ready to ship...Huawei gets an order for one of their standard swords and they go make it. Is the long wait and sudden and even unwanted order cancel/refund due to Covid effects? No, this is just routine way Huawei does business...."nag" and your order gets cancelled/refund without notice. Prior to Covid, I ordered a Huawei....at the 6 months point I inquired (politely) as to order status. Next thing I knew, my order was cancelled and my 1/2 down payment was returned to me. So don't think you angered them somehow....it's just the Huawei way. I have a friend with a Huawei order in, I told him that whatever he does...don't request order updates, no matter how long it takes. You will get a good sword. My longest wait was 1 year. But it was a nice sword when it did arrive. RinC

I'd imagine that's their kneejerk reaction to heading off customers possibly asking for a refund if they can't meet whatever demands are being made half/most-of-the-way into production. That still doesn't excuse refunding without a word, or simply offering said refund vs. continuing to wait. I really want to buy a Huawei myself, but it seems like it might be a good idea to just wait till they get a handle on their production situation.
Sorry you had to waste 6 months of your time though, that sucks.

While I completely understand your frustration and believe that you shouldn't have been treated like that, you do have to admire Huawei's insistence on extending delivery times in the interest of not compromising the quality of their product. Sure, they could just head down to hammer alley, pick up any piece of garbage, and send it your way, but they are not doing that. They are holding true to a standard to the benefit of the customer. Doesn't excuse the poor communication, but it's something worth noting.

I was just about to email Jacky asking for news. Glad I didn't. I'll stay quiet till it arrives (due late August, so I'm expecting it early July 2022).

I'm not sure you can trust their website's stock indication. When I ordered my HuaWei Unokubi Zukuri, it showed in stock, but still took 2 months to get to me.

I ordered an "In stock" sword early April. I get the impression in stock does not mean what one might have thought. At any rate, it is paid for and I will wait.

From the rumors I've heard, sayas are in very short supply. So it's possible HuaWei has the blade(s) in stock, but has to wait for the sayas.
I know when I got my unokubi zukuri, they ended up offering me the choice of a few different sayas when I inquired about the state of my order.
