Hi guys, I thought I'd post these up. I figured they'd be quite the contrast to the VA and Albion collections. I bought some of these second hand and others I kit-bashed by cannibalising parts and blades from damaged swords that I got very cheaply. The main aim was to have a collection that spans a thousand years of military history. So the collection ranges from late viking to the 1828 pattern sword carried by Highland Officers up as far as WW1. To make a lot of these functional required research and elbow grease. For example, the late viking with the brazil nut pommel was worked on exactly as was done in another thread here on SBG. I STILL have to pare down the quillons, though. Like I said: elbow grease. Anyway, here's my collection. There are no high-end pieces but I love them all the same in all their ragged glory. From left to right: Late Viking circa 900-1000AD Type X arming sword circa 1000-1200 Type Xviaish Longsword circa 1300-1400 Type Xviiia bastard sword circa 1400-1500 Complex hilt bastard sword circa late 1500s Swept hilt cut and thrust circa 1600 Pappenheim hilt rapier circa 1640 Glasgow basket hilt backsword circa 1740 1828 pattern Highland Officer's sword 1828 - 20th century.

I think I can identify a Windlass Ulfberht, an Erbach, a German Bastard, a Munich Cut and Thrust and perhaps a Battlecry Culloden. The Munich hilt looks a bit more slender than mine, what's the weigh?

The Munich hilt looks a bit more slender than mine, what's the weigh? I'm flattered, Andi! The Ulfberht is actually a Deepeeka late viking that a lot of work has gone into. The Erbach and German Bastard are unmodified Windlass 'straight outta the box'. The Culloden, I actually built myself using a Deepeeka backsword blade, a basket hilt that I bought in a curio shop, a welder, a load of epoxy a draw file and several tonnes of sand paper. I used the welder to patch up the hilt and build up some joins that had rusted through. The 'Munich' is a sword I bought from a friend for 20 euro. It weighs 1.2kg and is quite well built. It's tight and all the furniture is steel, or at least a magnet sticks to it. But I don't know where it originally came from. The blade is too flexible and wide to be a proper rapier and the stock is too thin at the guard. It's an effective cut and thrust sword, though. It will thrust through leather wrapped bottles and will cut thick joints of meat to the bone. There's a Tinker-Great-Sword-of-War-shaped gap in this collection, though. I'm looking out for one at the moment. I think Battle Merchant has a couple and I notice Outfit 4 Events has a discontinued Windlass two handed war sword but it looks a bit thin and whippy.
