Hi folks,
I understand that SFExpress is still not accepting swords for shipping (i.e. China to US, etc). Jkoo/Sino mentioned that a while back. My guess it is related to China govt punishing Hong Kong for desiring freedom and that China honor the China/Brit agreement when Britain gave H.K. back. Seems UPS will ship and some sellers, Jkoo/Sino for one, are trying to ship China2US, etc via UPS.

Dunno if this helps, but i'll share my experience with this. My last two productions swords, a sinosword and a Yomikuni tachi were held up (the tachi for about a month) due to shipping issues. Per Yomikuni, SF Express (this was at the beginning of May) had to renegotiate a contract regarding the transporting/shipping of "deadly objects" (per them, whatever airline they use--or could just be the chicom gov't up to usual shenanigans). I asked Van (sinoswords) about this in regards to my soon-to-be-poorly-finished sword, and he confirmed difficulties with SF Express, but didn't specify what the issue was. He estimated they would be back to shipping end-of-may.
Long story short, my Yomikuni was pulled from the SF warehouse and resent via UPS. My sino shipped the next day from UPS. If they're still not shipping SF Express (every other sword from China i've purchased has come through them), they may not be able to ship swords any more?
Hard to tell what the exact issue is, because I doubt either Van or Yomikuni were completely forthright on the issue (surprise!).

With the other options out there, is there some reason why someone is particular tied into that SFExpress?
Hanbon said because of the problem I had last time with UPS (them swearing it was delivered a week before it actually ended up being) they would ship my current order with a company called EMS.
Also, and I don't know if this really makes a difference or not, but on the outside of the box they described the item as a "home decoration". Plausible deniability for companies that say they won't ship swords?

Jkoo/Sino completed an order for myself, and also one for a friend. Shipped with UPS...EMS and SFExpress have been used before. Guess China govt still being what it is....punishing anyone who disagrees. sigh.

SO uh, who does the final delivery once SFE is in the states? According to the tracker its about 30-40 minutes from me, but depending on the company, it could still be another few days before it gets to me lol

Here is my "story" re. a Jkoo sword order. .1. The order was done and shipped via UPS (given tracking number). Ten days later, the sword order showed no movement. I asked Jkoo/Van Yang and was told UPS shipper had my order rejected by Chinese Customs and the package was returned to Jkoo. .2. Good news, SF Express was finally shipping swords again and so my sword package was shipped via SF Express and I was given a tracking number. .3. Bad news, several days later, the SFExpress tracking website still did not think my package's tracking number was correct (not recognized). I asked Van Yang, Jkoo and he said that now, all sharp sword orders have to be opened at customs and inspected and registered (or words similar) with the Chinese police. At China Customs, so everything takes longer.

"SF ship sword is slower than before, because every sword package need to be opened in customs, and every sword need to be put on records in police office. that meaning more procedure in customs for sharp sword shipping at present"

Oh joy....the wonderful China Govt at work, making it more cumbersome for small Chinese businesses to function.

I wonder how they are "registering" these things when not everyone uses serial numbers and those that do put them on the tang. Is customs seriously disassembling swords?
The next question is why? I know China doesn't trust it's own populous and wants to keep them unable to defend themselves, but these are outbound shipments. Are they afraid of a bunch of foreigners showing up with pointy things trying to institute a new dynasty? I mean, Mongols, I know, but they'd be using tanks these days.

Both of the JKOO swords I have came in the yellow tape wrapped styrofoam container. They didn’t strike me as all that re-sealable. I hope the packages make the trip ok.

I ordered a JKOO a week ago, and Van estimated 90 days to make it. Will be interesting to see what the shipping is like at that point.

Mine finally came in today. Can tell you right now, the cons are slowly building up against the pros( main one being that very tip of the kissaki came slighty rolled...) but the one odd pro may get me to keep it. I'll try to get a review out over the next couple of days, difficult as I dont have allot of private space at the moment.

"Tip slightly rolled" I hope not due to Customs mishandling. Since I have an order being shipped and having to go thru China Customs twice...so more opportunity for the packing to be done wrong by Customs...assuming they don't steal my order this time.
BTW, is your blade a folded steel blade? I have found that folded blades should be niku blades due to that folded steel comes out softer than unfolded. i.e. folded T10 or 1095 dulls easier, rolls easier, than non-folded T10. Niku blades normally have more of a "wood axe" edge which does not get as razor sharp, but niku edges can handle harder material cutting with less chance of edge damage than non-niku.

So I managed to snap some pics of the kissaki, wasn't easy but managed to get the camera to focus after 15 tries lol, may have to borrow a friends when I do the review...
Also I have still trust issues from the old ryansword days, so I always get mono when trying something new lol plus I didn't wanna pay to much for this, still feel like I did.

Still no progress with SF Express....guess still at Shanghai(?) Customs awaiting police approval to send....me thinks it smells of political pettiness by China govt bosses...sigh....been going on a week since I was given the SFExpress tracking number and still gone nowhere...not even in the SFExpress tracking system yet.

The SFE website never tracked a package for me. Sometimes the US carrier would recognize the number. Sometimes it wouldn’t.
I hope your package gets delivered safely.
