I thought this might be of interest to some.

Well that certainly seems like a lot of effort for a badly pitted blade, but I must admit I was thoroughly entertained by the video. I'd like to see more Sabre restoration videos out there.

Wonderful, very entertaining. I still hope to one day see a video where someone gets the tarnish out of the pits of a blade

IMO, he should have used electrolysis to clean it, then get to the rest of the shenanigans. That would have cleaned the pits, but they rust again, maybe blue the whole thing to protect the pits, then polish... Thats what I did to my crusty 1898 Argentine

Lovely job. Always a pleasure to see something cleaned up like that. Do those pits affect the integrity of the blade in battle? I have a rusty blade that might end up similar.

To get rust out of small blade pits use automotive valve grinding compound on a Q tip or tooth pick and rotate in the pit. To get simple tarnish and blackening out of the pits use Flitz instead. Naval Jelly works well to quickly and easily remove very bad rust scaling on blades instead of the gun cleaning rust remover in the video.

Small pits are unlikely to impact blade integrity unless the pits are extreme or there are underlying weakness in the metal. Although, the little pits are technically stress risers in the blade.

Thanks! Good to know. I am removing a lot of rust from a sword for the first time and I think I might get away with none but I wouldn't be surprised if there are some small pits so that's a relief. It'll just add character!
