Hi all, finally had the time to do a video on the custom Kopis I had made by Purna Darnal of the Great Gurkha Khukuri.
It was a great experience and I am beyond happy with my sword.
Please forgive my rather erratic review. I'm sure I missed a lot of information that should be in a review.
But I do cut stuff from horseback, so hopefully that makes up for it.

Watching someone cut from horseback is exactly how I wanted to start my day. Thanks for pointing out that Purna's blades taper in both directions. Despite his unfamiliarity with historic European blades (we're giving him an education), he does understand the concept as it relates to the physical handling of these weapons. The scabbard is top notch too. I love the suspension system you came up with. Congrats on a great review!

And thank you for posting up your experiences with Purna, the reviews here are what led me to buying from him.

Wow! Great review. I did not know you were such a reenactor. That sword and scabbard are beautiful.

Thanks guys. And yes Brother Nathaniel I think you are correct. I just found out that there are now 5 kopis, including mine, made for Australians!

Wow, that's an awesome blade, and an excellent review! I don't know a lot about kopis swords, myself, but that looks very close to the original. Hilt maybe has a slight bit less fine detail on it, but I imagine the historical examples probably had some variation in the level of detail too.

Gorgeous sword and I love your armor as well.
This forum has sold me on Purna, I think I'm going to have him make me a Kriegsmesser.

Thank you very much for sharing the video, rodwalker. I am especially impressed with the details - the Scythian style bit and use of a pad, rather than a modern saddle. (I am assuming no stirrups - wouldn't think so and didn't see any, but my eyes aren't the best.)
How do you avoid cutting the horse? Also, what are the risks to your legs, since you cannot angle them away from your cut? That's something I've wondered about, particularly with more weight-forward cut-oriented blades.

Hope you post some pics. I like to copy some of the coolest and use them as a screen saver ... and that baby of yours is definitely worth a hourly look ... B-)

Thanks all.
Yep, no stirrups. As for not hitting the horse, or myself, lots of practice over the years
You can see more videos and photos in my thread on having it made in the Ancients Swords section of the forum.
