I made this from a piece of privet after clearing some weeds. The names I'm aware of for this type of club are nulla nulla, waddy, and buundi, they were used for hunting and fighting, although they could also be used as tools as the points could be used for digging. They were sometimes thrown. I carved it with a hatchet then finished it off with a crooked knife. I haven't fire hardened it yet but probably should. I did try test cutting with it, as such. It cracked open a 1.5L water bottle, so I guess it does what it's supposed to.

That's the sort of thing I was trying to make. The one I made has started to split on the handle, which I thought it might given its made of privet. At worst I'll chuck it in the firewood pile and make another at some point, using a different type of wood.

If that is correct that could have been the cause of the split. Oil will prevent that. Use one for wood. Also a coat of something like varnish, shellac, etc. should work. But prefer oil by far. It will probably take more than one oiling depending on the dryness.

No, it's not very dry, it was still growing a week ago, it's splitting as it dries. I was going to use linseed oil, or a flaxseed and beeswax mix but I'll see how bad the split gets. As said I was aware it might split given the wood it's made of, I'll try again with a different wood at some point if this one doesn't make it.
