Inspired by the previous work by Purna I commissioned a kopis by him similar to one he had already created. In addition I had him produce a scabbard to go with it inspired by another piece I was aware of. Purna just sent a finished picture of the sword. Pretty impressed with his work.

While I am pleased with the overall package the proportion of the blade to the grip size seems to still be over large. I had asked Purna to make the overall handle size 5" roughly. The actual grip size 3.25 to 3.5". Based on the image it looks to be around 6" which is too long. I am looking to have him make another attempt but will be providing an actual plan for it as opposed to email discussion.
Purna is very communicative and clearly does his best to try and accommodate the customer. I would highly recommend him if you are looking to have a smaller sword project done. Euro style medieval swords and later would possibly stretch his forges ability to meet the desired result. However, like I said before, Purna would definitely give it his all to accomplish the task.

Would agree with you regarding handle size but that still does not detract from the fact that you have yourself a truly unique Kopis there and a beautiful scabbard to go with it

This is what I posted a thread about regarding the fact that sometimes with Purna , there is the fact that small details can be lost in translation , so probably better to draw it out with actual measurements written down for him to see .

Presenting a plan would definitely be better than having a conversation.

It looks awesome in the pic. I don't see any problem with it.
Have you held it in your hand yet?

So an update! I just got the sword today! This is a truly well done piece. Considering that it is all hand forged and assembled. Seeing it in person has clarified what actually occurred in the "lost in translation" paradox!. The grip area is about 3/4" larger than speck. I figured out why. More details to follow.

I am waiting for my third customised khukuri from Purna which he has chosen a nice piece of marbled / cream coloured buffalo horn for the handle . As I already have another five khukuris from another Khukuri House , I keep telling myself "NO MORE" , but I cannot resist Purnas workmanship .

First, the image provided by Purna was misleading. The forced perspective gives the impression that the proportion of the hilt to blade ratio is disproportional. It is not. In fact, Purna met the dimensions requested almost spot on. I had requested that the hilt be no longer than 5 inches. Somehow it was misunderstood from where this measurement should begin and end. The result being a little less than a .50" off. Not bad really.
I plan to have another one made and make certain that the measurement of the hilt is specified from EXACTLY where to where. Based on the result it seems that the measurement I requested of the grip space was from the rear portion of the bolster to the internal curve of the hilt as it turns back to the front of the sword. I did not clarify properly that it should have been from the front of the internal "grip space" to the rear of the internal grip space. Which I had requested as being approximately 3.5 to 3.75". The final result on this sword was 4 1/8".
Plainly the best approach to aid Purna in even better execution than his forge already does is through as previously stated a visual plan with distinctly defined measurements. Most of the minor issues and I do mean minor have to do with dimensions and detail. I have no doubt the next will be even more excellent than what I have already received. I will doing a more extensive review to follow.

Just a heads up. I put a review of this in the appropriate thread. Thus, making up for my very belated statement of doing a review.
