*looks at multiple holes in ceiling* Well, at least I've never broken a light fixture... ...that I recall. We, uh...we don't talk about furniture. Or that one bedspread I really liked... If you have any advice about fixing a damaged sword point I am all ears. See my thread below. Point Repair on LK Chen Palatial Tang Dao. Seeking Advice.

Thank goodness I'm mature enough to have never damaged my ceiling, or wall, or furniture, or broken a light fixture when playing around with melee weapons. Yea my light fixture fell on its own. I blame the budget cr*p they put in houses now a days or probably something else Okay if may have been my fault. Don't tell anyone tho

I found the sword reviews by Matthew Jensen and others on YouTube to be helpful. Plus his destruction videos are kind of fun and informative.

I wasn't aware Europeans made swords. Or do you mean those chunky, dull slabs of unbalanced metal they used to bonk each other over the head with back in olden times?

Thank for the info. The Huawei Swords link is almost an exact example of the confusion I have. I see eight swords in my price range, from $388.00 to $499.00, and I am having trouble working out what the difference is. Could be a variety of things. Differential hardening, polish, furniture, ito, folding, lamination (not at this price point), etc. Check this out if you haven't already: www.sword-buyers-guide.com/samurai-sword.html.

That mark on the ceiling was definitely there when I got here! And so was that other mark...
EDIT: To my surprise my wife did not notice the mark in the ceiling immediately upon coming home. She first noticed that there was white dust on the floor from the paint a couple of hours later. Then she saw the gash in the ceiling. The mysterious gash whose source NOBODY KNOWS.

I've been a longsword guy as long as I can remember. I was also in the boat of not really understanding Japanese swords. Admittedly I still don't know much. I remember having thoughts like, 'What can you really do with a katana except change the color of the grip?'. But an event in the not too distant past really changed my mind.
I only owned one katana at the time, and I was thinking about getting a new wrap on the tsuka. Out of curiosity I tried to remove it and ended up breaking both the kashira and the fuchi. I sent out an SOS to Cottontail Customs and the sword is now waiting in his queue to be put back together. All the fittings are being replaced, and I remember one night in particular I was running search after search on the Internet looking for a tsuba (and loving every minute of it). The next thing I knew about 3 hours had passed. When you start looking at all the hardware options there are out there for a katana, it gets very fascinating.
