Book Uhtred is great TV Show Uhtred i cant stomach because of the sheer historical inaccuracy of his clothing and armour How many movies and TV series are historically accurate ? I'm just grateful they don't have horned helmets on the Danes and they're calling them Danes and not Vikings. Although they did slip up a couple times in the first episode in the first season and called them Viking. And I shake my head no when they say Valhalla instead of Valholl. You learn to live with these things or you watch Sesame Street. Hey, at least they're historically accurate with the back mounted sword.

But where's the fur & suspenders armor? They leave that for you to do so you have that individual touch. You don't want every Uhtred to look like every other Uhtred.

The bad news for some of us who like the show is the 5th season will be the last, no season 6. Lots of fans are warning them DO NOT kill off Finan or Uhtred in the 5th season.

So many (imo) good movies and shows that people on here trash because they’re not ‘historically accurate’. Of course there is a movie coming out of a book that is near and dear to my heart. I’ll give you three guesses what it is and the first two don’t count. Haha. And I’m sure I’m going to be disappointed in some of it because it won’t be 100% accurate to the book. So I get the sentiment.

No movie based on a book is ever exactly the same as the book. It's easy to write something on paper but now try to create it on film. The only way you can come close is with CGI. Then they accuse Peter Jackson of destroying the movies by using CGI. Bottom line is you can never please some people no matter what you do so you shouldn't even try. I read books for knowledge and watch movies for entertainment. Yeah like these people are in the position to tell Peter Jackson how to make movies and you have how many of these ?

And let’s compare their bank accounts to his. 😏 Not to get to far off your op topic but I think the two best movie adaptations of books are ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest’. Just imho. Now back to your usually scheduled program.

This is according to the commentaries on my DVD. The first costume designer got the sack because he was trying to put them all in tights. The producers and director wanted the costumes to be more historically accurate so he got sacked and the replacement was hired just a few days before principle photography started. Morgan Freeman was thankful for his heavy clothing since it was really cold during filming.

I am not fond of some of Peter Jackson's activities, Meet the Feebles, but I really like his movies based on the J R R Tolkien novels. They were not accurate, but I think he got the heart and meat of them covered very well.

Thank you. I have seen that show advertised when I was on Netflix. I never watched it though. I was concerned that it would have a lot of gratuitous sex like Game of Thrones. I avoid that stuff.

No problem in this show, just good history action. Less fantasy than Vikings. Some prop historical wrong but overall ok. One season of the TV-series is made of two novels/books so you have two story arcs and not one over the whole season. The battle scenes in the novels are better than in the TV-series, something Cornwell is really good in.

Just because it sells, doesn't make it good. I'll reference the music industry, or reality TV stars.

But they are an indicator of success. The thread veered a little off the original subject but that seems to be what we do around here. Haha. It’s just mildly annoying (and I repeat, mildly) when someone trashes a movie you enjoy because it’s not historically accurate. But I get it. If your a serious student of history (I’m not) movies/shows that don’t show things correctly are going to be less enjoyable. Like the movie being made that I mentioned.

Yup, take the music industry and its Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, with The Go Go's (three average pop song wonder...We Got The Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed, Vacation) getting in while Motor Head, Judas Priest, and most recently Iron Maiden NOT!?! Nothing says ROCK like the freaking Go Go's, huh. They REALLY got to split the hall up into separate genres.
