I'm personalizing my two swords, making them a matching set in a green, "botanical" motif, including possibly hand-painted ferns on the saya. Can anyone recommend where I can find ito and sageo in similar shades of green? It's hard to tell by the photos on some websites. Considering how limited the choices are, I'm not too particular on the exact shade of green, just that the ito and sageo are similar. Here are the two swords I'm personalizing: Cheness Shobu Zukuri - Kurome: www.chenessinc.com/kurome.htm Cheness SGC Yamakami Wakizashi: www.chenessinc.com/yamakami_wak.htm...the black ito option which was cheaper and I'm going to change it anyway. It also cam with the white same, but I bought some black ray skin for that. Thanks and smoochies.

If I were you, I'd email Mike at Shadow of Leaves.com, and ask him to pick out a sageo and ito (in your price range, they have all kinds) that match very closely.

Awesome. Thanks.
Is there a rule of thumb for estimating how much ito and sageo to purchase, without taking the current one off to meaasure?

Yes.
Sageo's come in standard sizes for tanto(90cm), wakizashi(110cm), and katana (180cm).
A basic eequation to determine how much ito you need is as follows:
The estimate for length is to add 3 to the amount of length of your tsuka in inches. That figure would be the number you need in feet. For example; 12in tsuka needs 12+3=15ft ito for custom tsukamaki.

After I asked the question, and received your answer, I discovered that pretty much every site that sells ito offers this equation. I'm such an ijit.

"Oh no, Snot, you're not a dork. You're just new here and trying to make conversation..."
