I tend to say that my hobbies are all tied to cosplay - sewing (of course), chainmaille, leather work, etc. The one that doesn't really tie in is my sword collection. It started with a katana that I found in the basement which my mom told me was found in a house my parents had when they were first married. I'm thinking it was a war souvenir. Someday I'd like to take it to get appraised (open to suggestions of where in the Philly area I could take it, not shipping that baby!). Then my step sister gave me a pair of foils that were found when they were replacing the heater in their condo (i just have those for show, don't trust the blades). One of my faves is the custom made rapier based on a Michael Whelan painting (https://www.michaelwhelan.com/wp-content/uploads/exilesgate.jpg). Then there are the broadswords I picked up at the renfaire, the swept hilt rapier, shinai, bokken, and my scimitar for bellydance. I just need to figure out how to display my collection now that we have a house.
carbon: Sharpened one of my C/S H&H swords for the first time using an adjustable fixture I made. Went from a little better than butter knife to an even, polished, paper slicing edge. It's a slow process but it does work.
