I had a weird dream last night in which a nice kukri was important!
Today I'm looking for any recommendations for a good affordable kukri.
I'm open to durable modern iterations or old school. Even open to the machete kukri type blades if they're good (love my cs gladius machete, that's good thick carbon steel that acts more like a sword imo).
Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

I'll second alientude's recommendation. The two GGK kukris I have are top notch in terms of blade quality and fit finish. They also come extremely sharp.
That said, the GGKs are so nice I hate muck them up with field work (although I'm sure they'd stand up). For that I go with my Condor Kukri Machete.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and recommend Great Gurkha Khukuri too. What would be your budget ? Are you searching for more of a workhorse or more of a fighting blade ?

I recommend KHHI if you are able to go through a lot of the gimmicky stuff but...then GGK is very awesome. Also, Dragonfly Khukuri and Knives is a great place too and if you live in the US is free shipping.

I bought three from KHHI over a decade ago. The two smaller ones still see regular service. While the larger one is semi retired saw duty last week. All have held up and are in fine shape. I received another, a Mk3 (aka GI4) earlier this month. It’s a jewel. And I’m getting my thoughts together to order another but with a more versatile 13” blade. Not that that I don’t like the 15”, it’s definitely a keeper. sbg-sword-forum.forums.net/thread/64133/mk3-kukri-khhi-reviewwww.thekhukurihouse.com/

It depends what youre after and what type of khukuri you prefer . I am a purist / traditionalist so I stick to the handmade Nepalese companies , Dragonfly has his made by such people and has some wonderful traditional styles . I would buy from him but living in the UK costs me a great deal more extra cash with postage and UK customs charges .

My recomendations are GGK , Dragonfly khukuris , Kailash Blades , Heritage Knives , Khotang Khukuris , not forgetting KHHI IF YOU DISPENSE WITH A LOT OF THEIR MORE TACKY PRODUCTS .

I cant ad any new manufacturer, since all of the big ones are already mentioned. My question would be what you mean by affordable? That could be 30 USD for some and for others 190 USD. The BSI, although not the greatest khukuri ever have a following, and is readily available from almost everyone, and is affordable, I would say to anyone. Perhaps you could check that out? Amongst others Kailash and Khotang has it.
Edit: I would actually like to edit something to this, if we only are talking price..
Price, of course important. Sure we dont want to pay more then necessary, who wants? But consider the social commitment some companies puts into communitys, I for sure are willing to pay higher prices to know that artisans involved get proper pay for their work. Working hard should be rewarded. Actually, I would discourage from buying the cheapest. Either the quality of steel, tempering, hardening is bad, or, the artisans making it have earned near to zero. Nepal is a poor country were some people are being taking advantage off. Please dont support this. This is something different then individuals or companies trying to rip people of with inflated prices. Thats a totally different story.

I am a Himalayan Imports fan myself. Their villager models are a fantastic bargain. They sell a lot through their area at Blade Forums.
