As you may have seen a few days ago, fellow forumite Ronin and myself have set up a production sword database for japanese swords www.ausblade.com/page/db/Anyway, were toying with the idea of putting up the same sort of thing for production european swords... Would this be useful for the community or would it be wasting space? Being blissfully ignorant of European swords we have no idea what are the features that would be useful on such a database beyond the obvious sword name, sword type, sword manufactuer, RRP, length etc etc In the Japanese one we went into a bit of detail, adding things that aren't typically put on the sales pitch and it'd be good if we could do the same thing on the euro one, so ideas about fields would be useful too... Were also wondering if theres anyone who would like to volunteer help build up the euro db if it happens, no knowledge of scripting or anything required, to give an example, this is a screenie of the Japanese DB.. www.ausblade.com/images/admin.jpgNot hard, just tedious, good idea to really love swords lol but you do get tosee whats out there... Although we cant pay you, wed happily make you mods of the euro sword forums and give you plugs for your work, add your profile to the about ausblade pages etc etc..

I think that'd be an amazing resource. As for the details involved, I think that adding in additional information that may or may not be in the sales pitch would help give people an idea of the swords themselves. You can't go wrong.
Things like cross-style, pommel type, blade type; but also things like the grade of steel used and what kind of temper(i.e. How hard on the RC scale), in addition to things like length overall, grip-length, cross-width, width of blade at base, width of blade near tip, overall weight, center of gravity, and tapering information(profile, distal, liner/nonlinear, etc), and also what kind of tip: Pointy or Spatulate.
I'd be more than happy to work on this with you. Obvious starting points are Albion, Arms and Armor, ATrim, Darksword, Gen2, CASiberia, Windlass, Stage Steel, Rittersteel, Paul Chen/Hanwei...I'm sure I'll think of others as time goes one.

As you know we have a large western group here as well, so I don't think it would be wasting space!
I can help a bit if you need some help with manufacturers and the like.
some that adam didn't mention:
lutel vladimir cervenka cold steel Armor class pheonix metal creations (I'm not sure if their out of business or not...I heard something like that) Manning Imperial Del Tin

Ok, it looks like this going ahead, itll take me probably a week to rig up the new db for submissions, but in the meantime ive come up with this, anything to add or take away?
The Basics -Sword Name -Sword Manufacturer -Sword Manu. Number -Sword Type (Rapier, Bastard etc) -RRP -Overall Length -Overall Weight -Era -Native to:
Blade Info -Blade Length -Steel -RC Hardness -Width of blade at base -Width of blade near tip -Center of Balance (distance from Hilt) -Tapering Type -Tip type (Pointy or Spatulate) -# of fullers -Fuller Length
Hilt -Hilt Material (brass, wood, combo etc) -hilt-type (Basket, branches etc) -grip-length -cross-width -hilt material -Pomell (ball, plain, lion etc)
Scabbard -Color -Texture/Pattern -Decorations?
And i thought Japanese blades were complicated lol
