I watched the Easter Parade today. It was hard not to as it passed in front of my house. The parade was quite different than in the past. At least we had one this year, there was none last year. This year there was no one lining the streets waving palm leaves and all participants were in vehicles, mostly pickup trucks. The band was small and only one statue. Due to speed they were travelling there was a line of cars following. I couldn’t tell which was the parade and normal traffic that was blocked. Maybe things will be back to normal next year.

Learning never ends! In Germany we just do something like a postprandial walk at Easter (2 - 3 times). I had to look up "Easter Parade" first. Cool!

Perhaps procession is a better word. I still call it a Easter Parade, a carryover. In another time and place it was a time to put on one’s finest and take his girl for a walk, strutting around if you will through the park and elsewhere. Now ¾ of a century later in another place it’s a religious procession. I still call it a parade correctly or incorrectly. The church provides the small fries a token Roman dress, symbolizing, there are statues, usually a donkey w/rider, music, and many not in the parade will tag along behind. During Samana Santa there is much reverence. This year it was just with vehicles driving by and much less pageantry.
