For those who want to see the related thread "Frustrating Swords let's hear 'em". I finally got my katana from Musashi sharpened after much work. Took it outside and pickle chipped a milk jug very nicely. I am going to try the poor man's goza i.e newspapers soaked in water and slightly dried. Might even try some pool noodles after that.
The problem was that the blade came with the Ha improperly sharpened. I tried different methods but finally used a medium diamond block to finish it after using a medium Arkansas stone. I found that a diamond rod did not work while ceramic rods only served to dull what started to be a promising start and I would start all over again. But I sharpened it finally. It turned out to be a learning experience. First, you get the test, and then you get the lesson.
I still have an occasional rattle but the tusuka only has one mekugi and mekugi ana. For $54 not a bad deal after all.
Just saw Bishop's post on Cheness swords in the Japanese swords section...hmmm very interesting. What was the thread's title? CHENESS JUST LOST ANY FUTURE BUSINESS FROM ME! Sounds familiar doesn't it.
Then there is a post in the Medieval and Renaisance Swords by Nomorewords: "GEN2 NORMAN SNAPPED" posted on August 24th, 2008 HMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm.....
IMHO Cheness makes damn good swords for the money. Hanwei is slightly a cut above but my money is riding on Paul Chen and I have two swords to prove it. I put my money where mouth is!
