Hey everyone, well now that I have three katana, I'm going to take a step into the world of medieval swords.
I'm looking for 1 hand or 2 hand no hand 1/2 swords. I've looked all over and I can't decide which manufacturer to go with, I see good about some and bad about others. I can't afford albion blades though so it has to be windlass, DSA or some other company.
I'm just looking for opinions on the best choice for a sword of this type.

There are lots of choices available (or soon-to-be). DSA, Windlass, Strongblade, Valiant Armoury (including their Atrim models), and Hanwei (including the Tinker models). Deciding on a specific blade type (as in the Oakeshott typology), pommel and cross shape and materials, etc. would help in narrowing things down a bit.

Krieg's words are sound advice. In addition, you could pick a time period that most interests you and look at the types of swords that were in use then. That could help you narrow it down a bit too?...

Atrim practical Longsword is a good choice, and take a look at the DSA Norman also.

Hang on to your money and wait for the VA sig or the CAS Tinker. I personally might pass on them in the hopes for an albion by christmas (*fingers crossed*)

Depending on your budget the two options bob just mentionned are probably the best quality for the price you could get in the upcoming months. Thats if you are ready not only to wait but also to put down around 200$ more. But they surely are among the best blades for the price.

If looking at paying more an atrim two handed sabre might be the go, Shoots has one and from everything he has said to me about it, it is one sweet sword, I hope to get a bastard at some point.

Well by the time you get to the VA signature line, your looking at proper Atrim and Albion squire line prices. Of course those don't come with a scabbard or the nicer fittings but you do end up getting more blade for your money. So it depends, do want a sword that looks nice on display or the ones with the better blades? So basically, do you need more show or more go? The hanwei tinker line does look interesting however for a smidge more then a machine sharpened DSA or a smidge less then a properly sharpened DSA (assuming you don't do it yourself). Bishop from the swords you mentioned, the gen 2 12th cent sword line might be something your interested in as well. www.armsofvalour.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=AOVL&Product_Code=IP-003a-2&Category_Code=ICIB
