Seems like it will hold up to thrusts, and it really only has to survive a few jabs anyway. I wonder about lateral stress when slicing/chopping or if that would even be a big deal.

Very cool. I have that spearhead mounted to a rake handle and have beat the stuffing out of it. It will bend at the socket junction under enough stress but handled cutting just fine. Fairly soft steel. I prefer the CS boar and assegai spears but the Windlass does cut a little better due to its more pronounced leaf shape.
I like the ominous spear shadow it projects on the floor in front of you.

Brother Nathaniel, good find I know we have discussed this spear in the past. Interesting concept with the light and mount. Was that you in the video? One thing to note, if the light was mounted to shine down the edge of the spear there would less of a shadow.
Howler, it would need to be sharpened as it doesn’t come that way. But I think that mount should hold up. Might skew the light to the side a little.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering how that would hold up under impacts. It works about like my torch on the blowpipes except I get less shadow. As I no longer use my blowpipes I may just move a light over, should work well at blinding an adversary. With the light that close to the tip it should not interfere with polling. If you find the shadow much of a problem possibly rotating the torch over 90°? It’ll change the balance and I don’t know how hard that will be to work around. Thanks again for sharing.

Pretty cool. But I'm wondering if taping light to the haft might work just as well or better. It wouldn't stick up so much.

I once made a thread about doing this for home defense as well, with the light mounted on it. Good to see there are still like minds around 😎
If you use the strobe function, you could mess up the guys vision, while he is perfectly visible to you

My mount arrived this morning. When mounting I placed the blade vertical and finally ended up with the torch at 6 o'clock as it seemed to balance best that way. I think this will be a good addition to my night defense as I have no doubts this will hamper an adversary's vision, even after the light is removed. Thanks. I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier as it worked on my blowpipes and I kept a torch, un attached, near my spears.

It's a cool concept. I consider a weapon light to be essential on any defensive firearm for identification purposes. The same school of thought applies here, although if you're a foot away from your target and still can't identify them, you either have an incredibly dark house or might have vision problems😂

You could turn the light off and fire a directed flash to blind & stun in order to disarm, subdue etc. Once you pop the flash (which would be much brighter than the flashlight) you could maintain the disorientation using strobe.

A flashbulb or flash unit, the type from a camera. Should be easy to mount with the variety of types and attachment points!

For all of you young whipper snappers from wikipedia’s Flash Photograpy. For more details read the article. When one of these things went off I was completely blinded, save for the spots before my eyes.

Yeah, they are SO bright it hurts. You don't even have to go analogue, you could get a modern flash that takes batteries and have equal effect.
