Glad to see that you’re pleased with it. It really is a very clean and solid looking sword, especially considering the price.
Balaur is really exciting for the market, man.
And props to you on a concise yet informative rundown for a first impression. The comparison is well considered and displayed.

The ONLY thing I would poo-poo is the acute tip rather than the more correct spatulate tip. That's it. I'm really pleased with how thin the blade is. Viking Age sword blades tended to be pretty thin, so this is promising.

Nice review. I really appreciate the stats.
I have the Del Tin version. It is very nice, and pretty well balanced. But it’s heavy. A less expensive less portly alternative that is actually available is quite an exciting prospect.

Their Viking swords look good for the price, I just wish they would get rid of that diamond section at the tip and make it spatulate.

I've been eyeing this sword for a bit. Definitely interested in getting more of your thoughts. I do agree with ihutch1 in that I wish it had a more historically accurate tip profile.

Nice review, Eric! I do like the entire hilt on that sword, and the bridge on that scabbard.

The blade starts out pretty thin at the hilt. Is it whippy or overly bend when held to the side with the flat up?

The blade starts out pretty thin at the hilt. Is it whippy or overly bend when held to the side with the flat up? It is pretty stiff blade and no it didn't when I was handling it when it arrived. I'll take it out tomorrow and see again since it's had a time to adjust to the colder temperatures of NH.

Consistently I have heard report that BA's rigidity issue has been addressed in recent iterations. Good to hear that.

Rigidity and the tip would be my only concerns. For the price it's tough to care about the tip.

Thanks for posting. I had this one on order at one time, but cancelled it. I was going to rehilt it with a cruciform/brazil nut style like the Reeve. I think it would have made a nice project. The blade stats are good.
Making the tip less pointy is a super-easy fix. An hour with a file and some sandpaper and it would be better than new and you could improve the tip geometry in the process. Granted, there is built-in profile taper that you can't change, but the overall shape is still historical.

It has very clean lines.
I've never held a Viking type sword. Been a little worried the pommel would rub against the heel of my hand. Is that something I should worry about?
Almost bought this sword several times. Very attractive sword, at least to me.

Almost bought this sword several times. Very attractive sword, at least to me. You have to hold viking swords differently then you would a medieval type sword, otherwise the pommel as you say will hit into your wrist, but once you hold it the "correct" way the pommel at least for me glides across my palm and I have no problems swinging it around then.

Really depends on the pommel. Some, like brazil nuts, won't give you any issues. Others that have a wide/flat/angled surface facing up towards your hand may give you issues depending on how you hold the sword.
You could always hammer grip it and just not move your wrist. Otherwise there are certain grips, as Eric mentioned, that you would want to adopt. Nothing a quick YouTube session won't cure.

I want one. I think I want one with a brazil nut that won't get on my heel
Theophilus - could you recommend one? A sub-$200 one?
