I am kind of new to the sword collecting and only getting started. I did a thread a little while back about choosing one sword from the Roman, Viking, and Medieval era. Well, it seems that there is a whole another world of swords with Chinese and Japanese. These are almost as rich with history and popularity it seems as with their European counterparts.
Who is the Albion for Japanese and Chinese swords? I suppose someone who mass produces but excels with top quality and using the best blade.
As mentioned in another thread, not looking to have a huge collection. But maybe one good quality sword from each culture will make me happy. Perhaps, for Japanese and Chinese swords, there might be multiple manufacturers? I know for European, it seems Albion is hands down the front runner. Not sure what to expect here. Just looking for a good starting place to look.

^^^^ I agree with this...Paul Chen actually is the long term quality player in the chinese made Japanese style production swords.

LKChen is trying to get there but honestly isn't there yet. Their blades are exquisite but the grips need work and the wood they're using for the scabbards is not the best - they especially have trouble with humidity and stability of the glue joints. A little higher quality of wood and better adhesives would go most of the way to closing the gap between them and Albion. Right now, probably Hanwei is the best but I do think it's LKChen's intent to be the best. I just hope I can still afford their wares at that point. Now, bang for buck because of the very high quality of their blades, I'd say LKChen in an instant. I have 2 of their swords (Flying Phoenix Jian and Frontier Tang Dao) and intend to buy more. Next is either the Scarlett Sunrise Jin Dynasty Jian or the Gale Wind Ming Dynasty Jian. Matt Easton as scholagladiatoria on youtube - www.youtube.com/user/scholagladiatoria - has done a number of good reviews of eastern weapons and particularly LKChen over the past year. FULL DISCLAIMER: I am not paid by LK Chen but the first of the two swords I have of theirs was received as sample. I purchased the other with my own money and consider myself a very happy customer.

In regards to katana, the most staple and available is high end Hanwei as others mentioned. There's also Citadel Katana which are known for offering high end production katana. www.kultofathena.com/citadel.aspwww.sword-buyers-guide.com/citadel-swords.htmlBiggest issue with Citadel is much like Albion their swords are limited in make and are not in stock most of the year. Another option was Bugei but I heard recently their quality has dropped. Initially they took high end Hanwei blades and custom built the koshirae, tsuka and Saya to a finer level than Hanwei offered. bugei.com/

The Albion of katana are motohara/evolution blades imho. Best of traditional designs with modern steel and heat treatment. I have one for sale in the classifieds if you're interested.

I agree on this. Having owned a few Motohara and some other production katana such as Bugei, Hanwei, Dragon King, Motohara is the best.
