Maybe unpopular opinion, but I really wish people would USE (and learn to use properly) swords like these instead of treating them like delicate jewels. They are art. But highly functional art. And if these blades had feelings, I think they would be happy being used. Just my 2cents.

I get what you mean, but I suppose you could use a similar blade at maybe half the cost for that kind of cutting (beside the expensive blade).

No point in all the effort and research that went into making this sword work if nobody uses it.

For what its worth, my HC L6 katana was my primary cutting/competition blade and was used all over the US and in Japan for just that purpose.

Wait, in Japan? I thought they were pretty strict about that kinda thing. They are but....I went to compete in Toyama Ryu sponsored Tai Kai's. Hataya Sensei gave us his business card with something written in Japanese on the back to give Japanese Customs officials...we got waived right thru with our swords every time. They didn't even ask us to open the cases to inspect anything.

Yes, I've also read that his influence is what makes the "Kotetsu" blades able to be mounted/finished in Japan after first being forged in SE Asia.

The Kotetsu's are (were?) forged in Thailand, polished and mounted in Japan.

Nice sword and cool story Lord Newport. My Howard is still being mounted. It’s hard to use a sword that you spend so much time getting forged polished and mounted. It’s been a multi year deal for me.

It’s been a multi year deal for me. I know exactly how you feel. It was a couple years in the making for me as well. Howard had an extensive back log when I ordered my blades and then I gave three of them (still have an unpolished L6 waki) to Ted Tenold for polishing. I bought antique tsuba's and menuki and Ted got Patrick Hastings to custom make the fittings to order. I ended up with an almost indestructible L6 katana for hard cutting/competition use and a HC 1086 daisho for formal events/eye candy. HC L6: HC 1086 dasiho:

Yeah I agree. That’s a very elegant daisho. Love the theme. It’s not easy putting together a look for a sword and you use very well. Sweet set
