Grimfrost Broad Axe with leather blades protector. $290 shipped from Sweden from Grimfrost. It is the tallest one next to Arms and Armor Dane Axe and Wulflund Cross Axe.
Showing it off.

Mods are probably going to ask you to move this to the classifieds. Nice axe btw. Good luck with your sale.

My bad good sir. I’m blaming it on it being too early in the morning and hadn’t had my coffee yet. 😣 Carry on.

It's all 👍 good. I just rushed my text on the post and can see why it looked like a WTS.

Dang-a-tang! That's a big axe! I've got the same A&A axe, and I can see quite a noticable difference. 👍

Windlass had a model a while back called the Battle Witch, I believe. It resembled this axe head, but this hafting looks much nicer.

Do you have pictures of this axe made by Windlass or Deepeeka? I would be interested in seeing them. I wondered who was making this for them as they have Deepeeka and have had Windlass stuff as well as smith forged axes from a smith in Sweden. This axe is cast steel and I am not sure I have seen Windlass do cast steel axes, maybe Deepeeka?

I went looking for pictures, but I haven’t turned any up yet. There used to be some attached to an old sale post on myarmoury, but the links are gone (dang photobucket). You are right about the casting. The windlass option was not cast.

www.museumreplicas.com/langeid-two-handed-broadaxeThe difference is just the axe head finish, and the shaft wood. Both heads are cast forged, so it's just easier to leave it the way it is, instead of giving it a surface polish. They did polish the edge for the ones sold by Grimfrost.

The grimfrost axe blade shows casting marks whereas the MR blade looks smooth. Maybe the MR finish is painted, but it looks more that it's been darkened. Maybe the MR axe is copy tribute to the GF one?

Hmmm the Grimfrost Axe is made with EN45 and the Windlass one is 1055 steel. Are they the same steel? Can't find good info on that. They do look similar for sure. It looks like the Windlass one is an inch longer on the blade.

Maybe the MR axe is copy tribute to the GF one? Nope, the swords and axes sold on Grimfrost are mostly--like I mentioned earlier, Indian made low-cost replicas from either Deepeeka or Windlass. Some of these have slightly different fittings, others are just sold as they are but given a different name and price tag. Grimfrost as of now don't make anything themselves, there's 1 Dane axe for sale at $1300 cited to be made by a "Swedish expert smith", I suspect it's Tord, but since they don't drop the name, you can only speculate. Pretty much everything else is made in what seems to be India. So I don't know why Windlass (MR is just their retail outlet website) would pay tribute to themselves, or another budget-friendly Indian maker. It's almost a certainty that Grimfrost asks the contract maker to leave the surface as it is instead of polishing it out, which seems to be the only distinguishing feature, other than the finish color of the shaft.

If Grimfrost can request a different axe head finish, they sure can request another steel the contractor is familiar with. I have a similar experience when I ordered a smallsword from G.G.Godwin, an American reenactment gear supplier. Turned out to be exactly the small sword from Deepeeka with a very minor difference on the wire wrap (6 strands instead of 4), but costs more than twice. G.G.Godwin just threw in a very cheap metal clip along with the sword to make it look slightly different.

I should also say Museum Replica has a sales event literally every month with a discount of 15-20%, so almost nobody buys at full price at MR. So this axe with their blade finish should generally cost $140-150, keep in mind this is still a retailer price with a comfortable profit margin. Comparing to the $290 they charge you at GF, you can see how much more profit they make.
