Well guys I have bad news while having a good ol cutting party with a few good friends My only generation 2 sword I bought back in november 07 has had an impurity that has caused it to snap right in two after a cut through a light water bottle. I am sad because I got a fair amount of use out of it and it always held up well and to my recollection I've never made any bad cuts with it. heres the pics of whatever impure substance in in the blade....on both sides of the snap from the hilt side And from the top section of the sword that snapped off....and luckily didnt hurt anyone. the red fibers on the blade are from the washcloth i used to clean the blade for the photos after it fell on the ground from the snappage. Well I am definately going to have to get a replacement for this sword as it was never abused and used moderately with caution and care... I know Gen 2 has a good return policy and i'd like to know if anyone has any info on how to contact them for a replacement. An email address or any info would be a great help. I origionally bought this sword from arms of valour, should I try contacting them ?

Wow, sorry to hear about the break. Thats a tough one.... Funny enough, there was a little debate here a few days ago about SBG "supposedly" trying to hide away any customer reviews of Gen2 swords having a problem from time to time to protect the companies integrity. As everyone can see by this thread we do not. I'm pretty sure this sword would fall into the criteria of the bad batch of them last year, and you could very well get a replacement free of charge. Or at least a discount? I'm sure they will take care of this for you. Let us all know how it goes....

I stumbled upon the info of badly tempered batch a couple days after I ordered the sword. I really hope they replace this sword for me for free I've got no problem paying the shipping though. It was not a cheap sword $220 dollars is a lot of money to have break in half, especially when your 23 making $10.80 hourly as a cook. I will tell how it goes.

I hope it goes well for you, i would imagine that as long as you had some receipt or something to prove you bought it at that time or at least around that time, and that the broken sword doesn't show any signs of obvious abuse (which you said it didn't) then i would replace it. But then again, i'm not them, and have no experience with their customer service... Although i have heard good things from people who's opinions i value very much. Off topic: Hey $10.80 an hour isn't bad at all... But being a cook can suck! I was a short order cook off and on for a coupe years when i was between jobs. It was HELL! But free food and beer made me happy enough to stay for awhile anyway. hehe!

I have had SO many expensive swords break on me. Making $10.80 an hour is not bad. BTW, sorry this happened. Clyde is a good guy, he should replace it.

Oh and I work at crackerbarrel so I get absoutely no free food(corporate BS) and they dont even serve beer. I know ....its rough, lol Wow, not even for employees? Thats flat out BS! I only ate at a crackerbarrel once and had breakfast. I doubt i'll ever go to one again if they don't even hook the workers up with a cheeseburger every once and awhile. Shoot,... i worked at a WhiteCastle and they are about as strict as you can get in the fast food places. But we could eat until we fell down for nothing... But you do get sick of it after like 2 days. Smelling it all day is enough to make you not want to eat it ever again. I did my short order work at 2 different sports bars here in Chicago, but your butt we got free grub there! [/offtopic] Yeah let us know how that call goes. Maybe also try messaging the Gen2 guy here, his name is Clyde here's a link to his name: /index.cgi?action=viewprofile&user=clyde Try sending a message to him about it...?

You guys think White Castle and Crackerbarrel are bad to work for has anyone here worked or known anyone that has worked at a Public super market? They give really poor raises, like $0.25 raises every six months, they very rarely higher anyone for anything other than part time and once you are highered for part time, you stay part time with no room for advancement. There is also NO employee discounts for food, only advanced cupon flyers . One of my best buddies works for Public and has been for two and a half years. He is one of the hardest working bag boy hybrid cashiers that they have and he won't make more than $7.50 an hour working there ever. They won't promote him, but hey at least he gets 33 hours a week. God forbid they let him work more than 35 and they have to make him full time with benifits ! Plus as a hybrid cashier/ bagger you actually make less money than a straight cashier would make but only woman get hired as straight cashiers because they have a pretty smile ! So $10.00 is not too bad, of course I make $14-$16 an hour where I work for The Answer Group depending on how my quality audits go for that week. I usually manage $15.50 an hour. How do I afford such cool stuff? I still live at home! LOL! I am such a geek. Well sorry to hear about your Gen2 sword.

Okay I called the order line and they gave me a address to return it to. the guy said his name was clyde ...probably clyde hollis. he said it was probably a crack that went unnoticed during the tempering process he going to look at it and send me another one. (unless he finds out that I tried to take out an M1A1 abrams with it ) just kidding that was easy enough. you know I really like windlass too, But this is just a plus for generation 2, they probably have the best return policy in the the sub 300 sword market hands down.

How much of the blade broke off. If Clyde doesn't ask you to ship it back you might be able to salvage a dagger out of it, as seems to be the standard here. its not "broken" it's just helping you find its "true self" as side arm

I didn't know this was one of the swords suffering the tempering issue... I was under the impression it was the thinner blades: Lucerne, Black Prince, Dordogne, etc.

I don't think this was affected by the "temper issues." As Nomoreswords said, it could have just been a crack that appeared during tempering and went unnoticed. It's not that unheard of.

look closely at the pictures of the break people see the black spots ...they line up identically if I line the blade back up. its like a little piece of charcoal is in the blade some impurity that I think wasnt hammered out? Im not a smith so anyone got any Ideas what it is.??...I could take better close up pics if you think that would help.

Clearer close ups would be a good thing. PM them to sam or dandavis.

Well this is about as clear as I can get the pics with my easyshare kodak camera. heres from the hilt section again....notice the section in the top right that doesnt light up from the flash....Is that even steel And now heres the top part of blade that broke off...same black splotch in the blade...top right(obviously ) And so heres a pic of both of the snapped of blade parts where you can see the black crap in the blade. if put back together they line up perfectly ..Obviously where the structural failure came from heres what the sword looked like. So whadda ya guys think ?

Interesting that they want you to return it. That tells me they are interested in finding out exactly what the cause was so as to prevent it from happening in the future. That is good "Root Cause" quality control. I like that. Organizations that do that will only get better and better.

Gen2 is awesome at handling failures and other defects. This is why we love them. That is definitely some nasty stuff...no idea what it could be, personally, but it definitely shouldn't have been there. It looks like it would have shown up somewhat on the blade, though...at least it appears to breech the surface a bit. Did you ever notice it before the break, and when you put the two pieces back together, can you see it?
